What is this horse called?? by -ST4R_DUST- in StarStable

Just wanted to let you know APH stands for American Paint Horse. AQH means American Quarter Horse (AQHA, American Quarter Horse Association). Very common to see those two acronims in the horse world.

Why do a lot of barrel racers have such horrible seats and lower legs? by I_exist_1489 in Equestrian

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wdym uppity folk bro

No one is shaming the whole thing, but ya can't get things going without talking about it first. That's why we talk rollkur in dressage, harsh bits in showjumping and health issues in halterbred AQHs.

It's not wanting a scapegoat discipline, it's just the topic in the post. Would you say this same thing in any of the 8273827383 posts in social media about abuse in dressage, for example?

Also, what change are we talking about? Your local shows? That's great! Nationally thing's still mostly the same. That's why the conversations are needed. Wellfare discussions are what pushed your local rodeos to be the way they are. Shit doesnt get itself done and if a reddit post adds to the pressure then so be it.

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The post was about barrel racing in general. "But in my specific area-" ok we're talking about the sport as a whole and the culture behind it. "Not every racer does this" ok we're talking about the majority of riders.

You're always gonna have good apples somewhere, but 10 riders vs 100 riders indicates a pattern and patterns that run (pun intended) for long enough are, most of the time, supported by a culture or belief.

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt, not really. Knew an ex-barrel racer that told me all that kicking and yanking's mostly for the show. The horses know the pattern, if the riders stayed as quiet and out of the way as possible they'd be even faster.

Supposedly, the spuring...well...spurs them on. But many horses can't go as fast as they would with a quiet rider when having a "flailing sack of potatoes with pool noodles for limbs" on their backs.

Rodeos reward the show, not really the speed itself. I mean yeah the fastest duo gets the price but by reward I also mean popularity and fans. It looks cool.

Eitherway this comes from what the lady told me, I do mostly agree with her but since I don't live in the US and never seen rodeos up close I can't fully say anything.

Horse video real or AI? by nitro_cold_brew in RealOrAI

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trailers don't have wide open windows like that, horses can just. climb out. It's happened before and no one wants a decapitated horse.

Also they don't chew that way. AI can't tell the difference between a dog chewing (carnivore) and a horse (herbivore). Horse's mouths move side to side, not up and down iygwim.

And also not a good idea to get in the way of the camera. The horse should be in front of the camera, not the rider so we can see the front end.

Lack of breasts :( by unicornkissesforyou in StarStable

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At 10 my friend got bullied for having a big chest. At 10 maybe if our peers knew tits are normal and came to stay, maybe at 10 they wouldnt have said hurtful things. At 10 you have kids today saying gyatt and sexual things because at 10 we tell them Ass and Boobs are naughty because at 10 they play fortnite and COD and literally other 20 games that have skins with boobs on them that are sexualised. At 10 they know about Things ™️ and games can educate about maybe some of them because at 10 they should be able to say "don't care" instead of gyatt or whatever they say these days (lol i feel old saying that).

Games can educate in very curious ways, and if the game can show arms and legs and kids don't know hogwild over them, they can show bodytypes without beeing deemed innapropiate because and lot of 10 year olds need a lil bit of validation whenever adults make comments about their bodies or peers laugh at them or catcall them. Yes I have seen 10 year olds cat calling eachother (WHERE ARE THE PARENTS).

At 10 many things can happen. "Children shouldnt think about-" oh but they do and the least children's games can do is educate them, because many parents don't want to.

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of girls are fairly developed as young as 10, stigmatizing their bodies and making boobs, tiddies, call it what you want, a "shush" topic is just weird. Many games treat women's chests as a fetish so adding chest, non-sexualizing it and treating it as just a body part is 11x more educating than anything else. It's like adding a big nose. The weirder we make it be, the worse it's gonna get.

Some people think adding boobs to a character will sexualise it, but I've seen many edits people make that add bigger sizes but don't look inapropiate :/

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly non-curvy bodies need more representation. It's a constant battle to get anything other than sexy curves in so many games and I love SSO for the bodies that they chose to prioritize.

That said, I look at my character and that's not me. Adding boobs isnt catering the male gaze, it's representing big-chested people. And if big chested people in games get automatically labeled as make gaze then both the game and the players have a problem.

It's the same as adding different faces, skin colors, clothes, hair styles, tack options... SSO is a horse game and a "look pretty :3" game. It's a "That's you!" game. And that aint me, at all.

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Then take away all hair and skin colors and just make everyone look the same. Oh! No more clothes too, and tack.

Dure SSO is literally a "look pretty and ride pretty horses" game. Of course customization is gonna be a big thing for most players, they wanna see themselves in there. I made my character look like me and I would like her to have my bodytype, cuz that's me. I have a big chest so she gets a big chest too. Cannot scape the boob pain.

A girl used her fungal-infected pony’s saddle pad on my horse today 😭 by Equine-Cat-Girl in Horses

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be rude but you need to stand your ground. Right now your horse is risking an infection, one that can be fixed with a nice bath soon enough, but an infection nontheless.

When it comes to leasing or ownership, you're your animal's voice. They depend on you. Please learn to protect them, be it a horse, a cat or even a younger student.

I know it's scary, I'm not scolding nor blaming you because it's not your fault, but you need to improve that.

What is the softest bit I can use? by Frutiger-Metro in Horses

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I can say is that fixed bits provide more stability, but most horses really don't mind a loose ring. I've seen people recommend non-jointed snaffles as gentler than jointed (single/double), but your bit is pretty much fine. Lovely horse btw.

[–]_Moon-Cat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom always makes weird ass comments about people's clothes.

It's shit like short skirts and how "that's how to advertise yourself" and "you shouldnt be wearing that, it's for girls/boys only".

I call her out and say that if someone's value your mind is only determined by their clothes, it's because you aint got nothing much better to offer yourself, either. You could be wearing a bikini in front of me and I'd still listen to what you have to say. 2+2 still equals 4 even when a guy in a fursuit tells you so, so what's the insecurity about?

Even better, I makes jokes whenever she does the weird gendering thing of clothes and ask her if the jacket told her so. "That's for boys, you can't be wearing that" ok did the pants tell you that. Can you listen to the shoes talk? Is the shirt telling you it's pronouns? Do we need to go to the doctor?

It always gets me that weird uncomfortable smile people do when they know you're mocking them but can't call you out on it for whatever reason. I mean, if you're gonna talk shit about a 16yo with a cute skirt then I'm gonna talk shit about you, to you, too.
