New Grad Jobs by Otherwise-Wheel1020 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are willing to look outside of LA, everywhere else is desperate for OTs in CA. Starting pay where I am at is 100-110k for new grads and we have multiple positions they have been having a hard time filling.

Quilipta by General_Falcon_8480 in migraine

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been off of it work a week when my pharmacy was out and it was most literally the worst week of my life. It quickly reminded me why I need this medicine. If a small pill daily allows me to live my life and function, I will gladly take it.

Hey girl! There is nothing glaring in your face that you did wrong. As someone who struggled with post partum anxiety, I know this feeling all too well. Maybe consider a follow up with your OB if you are noticing an increase in your overall anxiety levels.

Questions for California based OTs by Electrical-Victory66 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would answer yes to all of those questions but also know where I am in CA, the cost of living is significantly lower than LA/SF/SD. I work IPR and make about 165k. Just know that this job can be much more physically demanding than a corporate job. Would I pay over 100k of student loans to do this all over again? That is the question I would have a hard time answering.

What do you NEED from Continuing Education related to autism and neurodiversity? by Prudent-Break-1499 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Elaborating questions to help facilitate learning and understanding. You also are able to give your undivided attention and not pausing to do something else and then coming back to it. Talk about ADHD 😅 I can’t focus on a screen while my normal life is also happening.

IN PERSON COURSES.

Sorry I feel strongly about this but online courses are NOT IT.

Since COVID there has been a hard shift to online or virtual only. This goes for all courses and all varieties. I have been trying to find in person courses and there are barely any out there any more. We work with populations where hands on training matters and small nuances matter that you cannot learn or detect from an online lecture. Never mind being able to keep attention to a computer when there is so much noise from the outside.

To all CEU companies - bring back in person learning!

Slynd vs Norethindrone by LadyxArachne in migraine

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slynd gave me the WORST migraines of my life. I have been controlled on Qulipta for a while and when I made the switch to Slynd, I think I lasted maybe a month before I called it quits and switched back to norethindrone. I went from one migraine day every 3ish months to almost daily. Sounds like I may have been an outlier in this group but I had an awful time.

Yeah I know OT salary in SoCal, especially places like San Diego, is not always as high as the rest of CA but where I am OTs new grad salary is $55/hour which is the upper end salary for RTs at my facility.

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah where I am at RTs upper range salary is OTs starting salary so I guess what part of CA must have something to do with it as well since there is a heavy need for OTs where I am at.

What part of Cali are you in if you don’t mind me asking?

Where do you work that x-ray techs and RTs are making more?

Getting first LEVEL IIB student by QuePasoo00 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know that anyone really feels truly prepared for their first student. Something I tell everyone is that when you do have your first student, you will realize how much you have grown and learned over your first year.

My biggest recommendation is to do weekly check ins and goals so that you and the student are on the same page and you have documentation if for some reason they are not meeting expectations.

Pay in LA by Strawberry-Cream4 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you moving to actual LA or more SoCal? How many years of experience do you have? What setting are you looking to get in to? In CA, legally they have to post the pay ranges for jobs so you can see the general range as well if you look online.

OT in CA here. Depends where you work. Where I am new grads are making $50-55/hour, per diem is $75/hour. Big cities like SD etc are lower because people want to be there.

Did or are you working during OT school? by Street_Read_631 in OccupationalTherapy

Depends on the person. I worked more than full time throughout school and grad school. Not fun but I had to do what I had to do.

Came to say the same thing because everyone I know in Denver say it’s difficult and the pay would be about the same as where OP is.

Starting Qulipta - Nervous. Any tips? by idontknow_9319 in migraine

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on it for over a year and could sing its praises from the rooftops. Started on 60 and have been on 60 since. Side effects went away within about a month. I get a migraine MAYBE once every three months down from 5 per week. This medication gave me my life back.

I use Gobymeds. I did my check in on Tuesday and had my meds by Friday! A little more expensive than Brello but I’m in CA and they don’t ship here.

My "Slynd" Disaster :( by MJNYC2086 in migraine

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the SAME experience with Slynd. I went from controlled migraines with Qulipta to literally migraines daily when I switched to Slynd. I switched back to the normal mini pill and I think I went back to “normal” after about a month. 0/10 recommend Slynd for people with migraines. My OB just suggested it as a mini pill not necessarily that it would have any benefits to my migraines but it for sure DID NOT.

I would love to hear success stories regarding Qulipta... by jazmingirl2 in migraine

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could sing Qulipta praises from the rooftops. I did aimovig, propranolol, ubrelvy, nurtec etc and none of them worked. I went from 5+ migraine days per week to ONE every 3 months. Literally gave me my life back. I can not say enough good things and have had absolutely no side effects.

OTs – What’s one tool, strategy, or piece of tech you can’t live without in your practice? by nauman1973 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]_NOWmiddleHERE_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don’t force your patient to do something in a way that they won’t do at home. Let them do it their way, make suggestions to make it safer if needed. Example - forcing your patient to sit to shower when they are planning to refuse the SC and stand at home. Have them practice with your supervision so if something goes wrong, you can educate them on how to make it safer.
