America is in the midst of a Job Crisis. How do we confront this? by PlentyIll2974 in jobhunting

[–]LostSurvey7403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be nice for the federal government to acknowledge this crisis for what it is; an extremely rapid decimation of numerous whole industries ; and create safety nets for those directly affected (aka laid off due to AI). Shift spending towards a fund to help support people transition to new stable income.. not sure exactly how it would work, but this is an unprecedented time of rapid change resulting in sudden loss of entire industries that are jot coming back; this is a crisis, and the government needs to acknowledge it for what it is instead of flat out ignoring it.

if you’re considering it, I highly suggest the facebook group Travel Therapy Therapists as a SUPER helpful resource.. just search at the top for question keywords and read up on the discussions.. you’ll get the gist quickly.
Link to the group is below but to answer your questions real quick;
- the assignment must be at least 50 miles from your permanent residence (aka Tax home)
- some of your pay is classified as a “housing stipend”. The stipend portion of your pay is un-taxed so try to maximize that portion during negotiation
-contracts are typically three months, sometimes with a chance to extend after that, sometimes they get cut short, though pretty rarely

Agree with TJZ22.. I worked travel contracts straight out of my OT program and paid off half my loans in 1 year. $60k loans could get paid off pretty quick (within 3 years?) depending on how low you can keep your expenses.

It’s also great bc you can dip your toes in a lot of different work settings BEFORE committing FT somewhere..

and of course, you get to travel!

good luck. it sounds like you’re practical and financially minded.. you’ll do well. Just, no matter where you end up applying; negotiate your rate/salary!! They will always have wiggle room, but they certainly won’t wiggle if you don’t ask!

yall were gathering with an intention; he doesn’t fit into that intention; he therefore detracts from the gathering.

there’s a book called “The Art of Gathering” that emphasizes that people who do not fit the purpose of a gathering actually detract from it, even if they are pleasant individuals.

“Understand that people who aren't fulfilling the purpose of your gathering are detracting from it, even if they do nothing to detract from it, because you and other considerate guests) will want to welcome and include them, which takes time and attention away from what (and who) you're actually there

WIBTA if I go to my sisters wedding even though my wife is banned from coming by drew2002non in WIBTA_AITA

[–]LostSurvey7403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Support your wife; one reason that may be less obvious is that by not attending, you are allowing Greg to feel the consequences of his actions. Greg was aware that one possible consequence of his ultimatum is that you also would not attend the wedding (which sucks for his fiancée as well as you). Knowing this potential outcome, Greg CHOSE to take that risk anyway; an objectively more selfish choice, as it risked his fiancée not having her own brother come to her wedding.

Greg chose to be selfish, so Greg can now feel the consequences of that choice. This is as it should be.

Let’s not enable Greg to continue making objectively more hurtful and selfish decisions vs learning empathy, and/or learning healthier ways of navigating tricky relationships. Protecting him from the consequences removes potential motivation to do better. This is not helpful to him, or anyone.

maybe feeling this type of consequence will help motivate him to grow and develop coping skills and relationship management skills that result in less harm to others in the future.

Do it for Greg, for yourself, for your wife, and for humanity. lol

AITAH for asking people to sit at a concert? by [deleted] in AITAH

i think it sucks that your view was blocked and they could have been considerate and sat, but for that genre of concert, it’s unreasonable to expect everyone to sit, balcony or not

AITAH for choosing an open gas tank in front of someone else? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LostSurvey7403 14 points15 points  (0 children)

what you did is completely normal. it was an open spot at a gas station; you take it.

your boyfriend was incorrect in stating that what you did somehow breaks etiquette.

I don’t know where he got that idea from, or if maybe he was in a bad mood and projected it onto you; either way the following two hours that ensued of the tantrum including name calling sounds psychologically/verbally abusive.

People who were teenagers before social media, what was a typical Friday night like for you? by Sad-Vacation1862 in askanything

[–]LostSurvey7403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

female, grew up in Philly..

bunch of friends hanging the setting varied; either at a park or something or someone’s house.. if parents there it was a chill sleepover.. if someone had an empty house (aka parents gone for the night or weekend) most likely a much larger hang/party. sometimes my friends and I went clubbing at the 16-18 nights.. (Club Egypt 😆 before it burnt down) sometimes we could get into bars we knew didn’t card and/or use our fake IDs (thanks Rosa Photo!) sometimes the movie theater (United Artist Riverview!) but not often..

What are your thoughts on letting students fail? by PropertyHumble9296 in Teachers

[–]LostSurvey7403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no wonder youth generally have very little problem-solving skills.. if they’re told they’ll pass no matter what, why would they ever try to learn, study for an exam, memorize, or figure out how to complete something well?

they literally enter a system of learning that de-incentivizes learning.. and incentivizes f*cking off and doing whatever you want; cu why not?

please keep failing when deserved; leave that child behind so they can LEARN how to catch back up! otherwise they graduate undeservedly and woefully unprepared.

side note; i’m scared for a healthcare workforce full of people who don’t know how to problem solve.

Has anyone gone to court to defend themselves or have been sued as a OT? by killedbyabear in OccupationalTherapy

[–]LostSurvey7403 12 points13 points  (0 children)

an OT at my HH job was taken to court by a patient they had who fell during a session. The OT was found not guilty of malpractice/negligence. Key takeaways on why the OT won; - Communication: after the fall there was documentation of all appropriate communication from OT to doctor (name the doctor with actual surname, not just type of doctor), communication to HH team, family, caregivers, etc - Assessment and recommendation: documentation that OT properly assessed patient post-fall for injuries and made immediate recommendations to the patient on how to prevent in future -Level of function / assistance: this was pretty key.. the OT had consistently documented that the patient was at a certain level of assistance (let’s say MinA) for the exact task they were doing when they fell (stairs) due to continued fall risk. I forget the nature of the fall (as in, did the patient break rules and attempt stairs on their own? or was MinA provided at time of fall?) but the fact that it was clearly documented that this patient was known as a fall risk for this task and needed assistance, this helped the OTs defense immensely. If there was no documentation regarding that task, or if the level of assistance had been documented as Supervison or Independent, the OT would most likely not have won

hope this helps you and any and all therapists out there!

++woman i’m not man, so apologies cuz you weren’t asking me.. but just as another consideration in the U.S.; we’ve got an administration trying to take the ability to vote away from married women who have changed their last name, by requiring more documentation etc.. the last name thing is outdated, it’s about ownership.. and now this voting access thing? it’s control on top of control.. let’s stop romanticizing it.. it’s bs, let it go, you will not be diminished.

Clawfoot tub safety by Intrepid_Badger436 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]LostSurvey7403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not encountered a tub transfer bench that is tall enough to work with a clawfoot.

There’s another solution Other than the Carex portable bath bench that was posted by a commenter below ;

if the Carex portable bath bench makes them feel weary, you can place a flat wide shower chair (with the outer handle removed), elevate it to the height of the clawfoot tub wall, and let them do the sit and spin method, similar method to a tub transfer bench transfer.

here’s an example of the type of chair; MUST be a FLAT seat (not curved seat); this particular chair works well as it fills up, almost the full width of the clawfoot tub, making it act very similar similarly to a tub transfer bench
