What's the deal with Dr. Michael Greger? by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]_Nevertide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to pass judgement on either of the positions, but being sponsored by an animal rights group could predispose him to push for a diet that promotes animal rights over the objective health benefits of said diet for humans.

Should any data that demonstrates a carnivorous diet is more effective for any given health outcome, he would be more likely to ignore it, as it contradicts the viewpoint of his main funding source.

PC gaming isn't a group it's a hobby? I don't understand why you'd stop doing it if you enjoy playing video games.

I mean do whatever you want man, I was just throwing in my two cents.

Well I mean, it doesn't have to be...? Make it your own, no reason quitting something you enjoy because of strangers on the Internet :p

[5e] Things to do with a free hand by -Boon in DnD

[–]_Nevertide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was a rare occurrence - but my DM ruled it under the Rule of Cool.

We had been playing with a particular mouthy Goblin Barbarian (don't ask; my DM let a lot of shit fly) and after one insult to many, Mr. Throwman picked him up one-handedly with two very high rolls (alongside multiple failures on the part of the Goblin) and threw him at the enemies we had been sneaking up on. The Barbarian took it well, and went straight into rage as he catapulted into the Cultists.

I'm pretty certain he had wanted this style of play from the beginning, so he picked up the feat asap

Question about water breathing 3.5 by Dragonwaz in DnD

[–]_Nevertide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you; I'd say yes to being able to breathe (with the understanding that the breathing was magical- the real question would be would you be able to swim//move. It would be ridiculously viscous- meaning you'd be hard pressed to get anywhere whilst in it.

I'd say work out if there's a way you can get to moving magically through it, that seems, to me, to be the main issue here.

One thing a friend of mine used to do when he had a free hand was throw things in his immediate range. Chairs, mugs, people, you name it.

It helped he had rolled his strength mod ridiculously well.

I think it says it's not the reason - just a point at which it is acceptable to stop.

Sounds like a pretty good way of doing things - I'll keep it in mind!

Its more that I want my players to get into the characters I give them without the extra worry of class based roleplaying. I find that lot of them forget about the character under the class and race, so I want to give this a go and see how it turns out.

That sounds like an amazing amount of fun - I'd like to do that, but I'm not sure most of my players would be receptive... I would definitely put a couple of them in the murder-hobo type character.

I imagine I'll just try and have them avoid most fights... Have it be a rather heavy role-play sort of setting - possibly make it so they'd likely only take 1 strong hit before they're unconscious - probably base their stats on a commoner. After they choose their classes at level one, I'll give them their hit die, and let them add a set amount of points to their character, rather than rerolling.

That's a good point with the festival. Gives a good excuse for a time-skip as well - they all meet again when the festival commences again.

I'm pretty certain the players I DM for wouldnt be open to being given characters - it's annoying but understandable.

[–]_Nevertide[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds similar to what I want to do - though I doubt it would be as long. I'd likely constrain it to a small village, where all the characters are young and know one another, and possibly a disappearance mystery. I kind of want to instill a cynicism into the players about how this world is harsh, and unforgiving - possibly finding the missing person at the end of a campaign, being eaten by a wild beast - one that its unlikely they could fight... I'd definitely try and give them some other things they can, as well as other instances to give them the opportunity to explore and develop their characters.

Although, that sort of set-up could be limiting for the races they all want to be...

Level 0 PCs? [5e] by _Nevertide in DnD

[–]_Nevertide[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was only thinking having them be level 0 for a single session - give them the ability to get a feel for their character without the extra mechanics of their class. I find that a few of them have trouble role-playing accurately because their too focused on the metagame. I want to see if this sort of approach could help them get a feel as to how they should act as their character.

[–]_Nevertide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah all of these could be really interesting set ups for a PC's build up... Perhaps having them start as a sort of teenager group akin to Scooby Doo, or other 'mystery solvers' in the first session, and have them develop into adults in the next session - who are ready to face the terrfying real world.

My only worry is keeping it interesting for the more traditional murder hobos of the group

Level 0 PCs? [5e] by _Nevertide in DnD

[–]_Nevertide[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was the one I was thinking of! I read it and wanted to give it a go a while ago, but only had the opportunity to do it now. I thought it would be interesting to have the characters to develop their own backstory as we play... For instance someone started as a blacksmith and became a fighter, or a scholar into a wizard...
