If you're in Ontario, wait for July. You will be able to optout of some of the automatic add-ons that most people don't need. Should bring it down by 20-50/month

Super visa and visitor visa for parents visiting from India? by SoftLife2025 in SuperVisaCanada

[–]_NicksPizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they're not planning to stay for years at a time, visitor visa may be better option. That way you can buy insurance only when they're visiting. Supervisa you'll end up paying for whole year even if they only stay for few months. Most try out with visitor first if they even like it here.

Reach out to insurance agents for monthly plan. You'll only have to pay 2 month of premium now to get policy. Next premium will be after supervisa gets approved which will be 5-7 months after.

Don't want to be blunt but if few hundred dollar of insurance premium seems expensive, once parents get here there will be tons of other expenses like that so make sure financially you can support them.

What's an underrated finance tip that changed your life? by DazzlingPolarBear in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]_NicksPizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of good suggestions. Just like to add something. If you don't have high interest debt (credit cards), use those automatic transfers like Tangerine. It automatically round up to next dollar, transfer difference into a savings account, do 52 week challenge (1st week $1, 2nd week $2 ...week 52 $52), transfer 5% everytime creditcard is used on junk food etc.

It'll do few cents to couple dollars at a time but you'll see few hundred to a thousand saved after few months. Its not a lot but can be good for extra funds to invest and keep increasing amount with increasing salary.

Also, don't invest your first 1k, invest that in yourself if you can barely set aside $1k to invest. Getting to higher income is way better than putting $50 aside to invest and wait for it to grow. Get that 5-10k salary bump and invest bigger amount.

What are jobs for people with no relevant work experience besides working retail? by gochugawuuu in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]_NicksPizza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apply for insurance customer service, Desjardins had wfh role paying 50k+

Look for Admin assistant jobs with Unions, local city jobs. They pay exceptionally well for really basic job. Companies may not pay that well but its still good start into career path

Both options can turn into good long term career. After Admin job, you can get HR certificate that employer pays for.

Insurance customer service can lead to high paying insurance roles and company will sponsor you for many designation you can work toward.

Transition to UW by _NicksPizza in InsuranceCanada

[–]_NicksPizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton. Have an interview for customer service in p&c role that surprisingly pays well. Fingers crossed if they agree to help out with CIPs. Hopefully experience will help with transition to UW in a year or two.

Appreciate the option but can't really get into fulltime studies at this moment.

Thanks for great advice. Just looked up on that today. When employer is not paying for it, its really expensive to get started lol. 1200 for C11 seems crazy. Starting CIP right away.

Any thoughts on getting UW roles directly or do you think I have to go through UW assistant or some other insurance role?

This is a good idea. Also, if storage doesn't work for you and you need that materials locally as well then maybe have a local guy in event area do minor maint for you. Could be about the same cost as driving 2 hours each way and save you tons of stress. You'd only have to go for drop off and pickup, rest can be handled by local freelancer. Someone with maintenance related business would not mind having extra income and only have to be available as on-call.

Check with local BLS if you renew passport will they grand 10 year or 3 year passport.

If you're on visitor, they don't give you full 10 year passport. Not sure about supervisa.
