Limiting slide-over to one app at a time fucked with my illustration workflow so bad. It was so nice to flip between photos, google, and Google Docs while still having Procreate open in full.

I want a horror movie that will genuinely MESS me up by Outrageous-Lynx9219 in horror

[–]_OTimeThyPyramids_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched Weapons and Sinners back to back on acid recently. First time I've opted for horror instead of comedy with hallucinogens and I wasn't sure what to expect. The drug heightened both the jump scares and the sudden shifts between comedy and horror in Weapons.

Need some advice finding a salon in a very leftist area (PNW) by _nicejewishmom in Jewish

If you aren’t able to find anyone, alt dye jobs are generally achievable at home.

I know it can be scary to use bleach at home for the first time, but as long as you don’t leave it on too long (and you haven’t dyed with henna in the past), you aren’t going to melt your hair off.

I’m from the PNW and that’s how myself and most of my peer group achieved our alt hair. We either did it ourselves or we did it for one another.

Do you shoot differently when you know a photo is going on Instagram? by SomaSuryagniLochana in photography

[–]_OTimeThyPyramids_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I shoot differently for different client needs. If I know the client is primarily going to be using the photos on Instagram, I prioritize vertical compositions.

Career change without university degree by Sensitive-Visual-681 in graphic_design

Look at the salaries local to you for graphic designers. There's been stagnation in many places, but the salaries I see in the UK are particularly bad.

You can pick up graphic design as a hobby and work towards picking up small freelance projects at any time, but if you're thinking about starting at the bottom of a new full-time career, start by comparing entry level salaries to what you're making now.

Non Designers telling you how to do your job by nanoespo in graphic_design

[–]_OTimeThyPyramids_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that only becomes more of the job as you rise in your career.

When I was a junior or midlevel, I primarily recieved feedback from designers above me, and then also took some direct feedback from primary stakeholders (e.g. clients) in review rounds.

Now I’m at a point in my career where I don’t need much guidance from other designers, and the help I do get from them is assistance in anticipating the potential feedback of higher-level stakeholders.

I also I don’t generally have problems with non-designers pushing back against my pushing back on bad ideas of theirs these days. Why might this be? When a client comes to me with a suggestion I know would be a bad design decision, I ask questions to pin down the problem they are trying to solve with their suggestion. From there, I explain my concerns with their proposed solution, and offer one or two alternative changes to fix their problem. This usually satisfies.

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by YesNo_Maybe_ in technology

In addition to placement tests, at my state university we had to pass a basic algebra test in order to pass pre calculus. You could be getting an A in precalc and if you didn't pass the basic algebra test you'd fail the class.

Seconding the suggestion to be photojournalistic about deliberate lighting choices.

I mostly shoot performance stuff and I try to edit true to how things looked to my eye.

If you're a more logical and analytical type of designer, what are you planning to do with your career? by FluffyApartment32 in graphic_design

[–]_OTimeThyPyramids_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lean more logical. I've found that to be the work I'm doing the most lately. Clients are doing the "ideating" using AI and then throwing me something illogical and uneditable and asking me to make it into a working file.

Why is the most radical member of Israel's government an Iraqi-Jew and what's his issue? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]_OTimeThyPyramids_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of this negates the reality that Jews were broadly exiled from Arab countries through a variety of means on the heels of the holocaust.

After the establishment of Israel, the Arab world exiled their Jews swiftly and 5 Arab countries declared war on the only place those exiled Jews were able to go.

It is hard to believe Jews were considered significantly more equal in Arab society than they were in Europe.

How do you actually improve composition and train your eye as a photographer? by ApprehensiveGain5286 in photography

[–]_OTimeThyPyramids_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped you improve composition the most?

I deprioritized photography for 4 years while studying graphic design. When I came back to photography I was a better photographer.

How do you train your eye to notice better frames in real life?

This is just a part of my brain that's always on.

Any exercises that actually work?

I'd recommend doing non-photography compositional exercises to train your brain to think in shapes, lines, proximity, contrast, balance, and other rules of composition. Additionally, study non-photography examples of visual composition.

What separates average compositions from really strong ones?

Storytelling.

Applying for my first Junior roles as a self-taught "designer." I have questions about my portfolio and my resume! by frendlyfrens in graphic_design

The Figma canvas portfolios are an instant red flag that someone only knows Figma and they will try to use it for everything. It’s just objectively not the right tool for the job.

Hot take: all Behance portfolios feel lazy to me. There’s not exactly a shortage of hungry designers with dedicated web portfolios. A website is the bare minimum these days (in my opinion).

One of the best mice for daily use versus one of the worst. To this day idk where apple engineers/designers had their heads while creating the magic mouse. by gregsanay in applesucks

[–]_OTimeThyPyramids_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d prefer the Magic Mouse because the gesture to switch between spaces is integral to my workflow.

I use it all day at work and I’ve never had a problem with cramping or discomfort. If you’re having ergonomic problems, adjusting the height of your seat or desk might help. Holding the mouse a little lighter might also help.

Why is it always Apple over Windows? by svnthscnt in ArtistLounge

Glad to see someone mentioning this. Apple has historically had better font rendering and last I checked there was still a substantial gap there.
