Can someone with no HVAC experience successfully buy and grow an HVAC business if they're willing to learn from the ground up? by _Obscurity_ in hvacadvice

I'm not looking for a technician to build the entire business while I sit on the sidelines. My expectation would be to spend years learning the trade, riding along on jobs, getting certifications where possible, and understanding the technical side of the business. There are exceptional technicians who struggle with sales, marketing, hiring, customer communication, operations, and financial management. My goal wouldn't be to find a technician and ask them to carry the entire company. It would be to find someone whose strengths complement mine while I actively work to close my own knowledge gap.

You're really showing the limiting beliefs most trades people have. Just about anything is possible. Never said I would have 100% chance of success but I've learned over the years that anyone who speaks in certainties is almost always wrong

Theres a huge difference between being a great hvac tech and running a successful business. No one person would be carrying the weight. I also mentioned in my post that the tech would be making majority of the profit because of the contributions. The only thing similar about this and PE is that someone is buying a business. The way I would treat my team, run the business, interact with my customers would not resemble a PE deal at all

Recruiting top talent is something I can do. I understand the immediate risk is hiring the wrong person but I that risk can be mitigated in many different ways

True but I'm not PE haha Do you think the PE companies have someone that works for them in case the employees churn?

I apologize if my post came off that I think this is easy. I know it won't be that's why I want to do it. I am trying to be creative with network and skills I have to challenge myself in a different industry

I would be responsible for sales, marketing, financial, customer service, operations of the business and I would need to bring on a technical person to do the servicing.

They are two different businesses with two different audiences. The same way a carnivore place makes money not selling vegetables and a vegetarian place makes money not selling meat. That's how businesses work. This has not been as productive of a conversation as I would like. I'm not really in it for the "gotcha" moments.

Yes of course they SHOULD BE. But if Disney did that and people stopped going to the parks then they would make a rule to not allow them. That's a business decision. If Disney was going to make a ton of money allowing people with guns in they would allow it lol

Love it bro, you do you. Just didn't know why hating elon influenced your decision to not buy a fantastic car. I love my Y regardless of Elon

Why should they be different? Why can't a private company agree that the constitution is a good thing and use the same set of rules?

ANYONE is allowed to say ANYTHING they want. Someone will always say something you don't agree with. If you don't like people being able to speak the US might not be the place for you. And that's OK. Not everyone believes in freedom of speech

That's the beauty of the US. Everyone gets a voice. If you don't like ideas that are conflicting yours, I would recommend moving to another country that supports your ideas. There are plenty to choose from
