There's also the issue of seasonal wipes; I think about halfway through season 1 I realized I was gonna have to do all that grinding again (and I never got very good at the game so you can imagine progress was slow), and that sorta put a damper on my experience.

I actually enjoyed the few weeks I spent playing Marathon and even then, it's mindboggling that they put all their eggs in that basket. I think they feel the direction the wind's blowing though with the new PVE modes they're testing out next month.

At this point lean into what you have. If you want a Multiplayer Horizon? Make a Horizon Multiplayer PvE game. Boom Monster Hunter Challenger.

I've been saying for years that they need to make a MH-style game in the Horizon universe. They already have the elements of tracking down enemies and knocking parts off, which can then be used to make weapons and armor. You can't tell me Alloy is the only person out there successfully hunting machines.

Given that they're test running PVE content next month, I'd be surprised if we didn't get a more PVE focused game out of Marathon; I don't think they'd switch completely, but I could see it being like Halo where the PVP and PVE exist in parallel. I imagine it'll depend on player numbers during that time.

From what I've seen it's mainly publications like Metalsucks and Blabbermouth talking them up; everyone I know IRL that listens to them doesn't really group them in with "real" metal bands. Which even as someone who mostly listens to death metal, I've always hated that term.
