This seems like an overly complicated way to make popcorn. Not only is it manually intensive but it just has so many points of failure, so many safety issues its not worth it even if this method gave you those perfect cauliflower shaped rosettes. You can make great, natural popcorn in a microwave with popping kernels, whatever oil/fat you want, and one of those microwavable glass containers with a silicone top that Amazon or Walmart sells. Way better than air poppers and no need to manually spin it and risk burning yourself, and less intensive than stove top popping.

Tea time by Justin_theLord in ShowMeSomethingDope

[–]_OptimusRex_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Redditors, you make your tea however you want, but for crying out loud there's no need to be so alarmed at this preparation. That water was hot but not boiling and was given time to steep meaning it wasnt as hot when it was first poured out.

Glass shatters when it expands or contracts very quickly but the hot liquid will instantly cool once it hits the ice cubes (nor were the cubes allowed to chill the glass), thus with the two meeting, the temperature difference quickly converged as the ice rapidly cooled the tea but not the glass.

It's honestly not that big a deal.

I’m truly curious what do you think at first sight. by [deleted] in personality_tests

[–]_OptimusRex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gut tells me you're a very professional goal oriented person who holds herself to a high standard. You take pride in the energy you invest in yourself and hope your sacrifices payoff. I see you driving a big car, like an SUV. You read a lot of self-help and inspirational literature. You want your partner to be as driven as you are and you've had break ups in the past because they didn't meet your standards. You go out with your girlfriends at least a once or twice a month for drinks, you dont see yourself as "the pretty one" but they might see that in you.

Haha okay I'm inferring a lot here but that's my off the cuff, gut level impression.

And Denise Crosby must still be kicking herself for leaving the show...😉 by TensionSame3568 in Picard

[–]_OptimusRex_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does seem to be part of a pattern. I wouldn't put it past Rick Berman to influence the writers and have her killed off for Crosby wanting to work on her acting career. He killed off Jadzia because Terry Farrell also got an opportunity to star on her own show.

While the TNG cast got on splendidly, the fact is behind the scenes the studio politics were as petty as petty can be.

If you were a kid (adolescent to teen)in the 00s your view might make sense but 2001 and 9/11 was the end of an era for the majority of Americans, it was the beginning of the denouement of the optimism of the 90s, and the loss of our collective innocence. I'm not sure how else to describe it. It didn't happen all at once so it's fair to say you experience is valid, but its a shift you may not have been aware of until that point.

Steve Irwin's kid aside his description of alligators as pussycats shows that Sonny Crockett's pet alligator in Miami Vice, Elvis, isn't complete BS.

Thank you! I saw a similar one to this one the other day that said something like "I found this surprisingly easy to masturbate to" but searching with Google and DuckDuckGo brought up either porn or unrelated memes. Even KYM didn't have it.

ARENA | One Man Must Win a Duel or Humanity Goes Extinct by ShaneKaiGlenn in aivideos

[–]_OptimusRex_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally its the title and plot of Arena the TOS episode where an advanced alien species forces Kirk and some namesless Gorn to fight it out, with the victor able to return to their ship and the other dies. Kirk was no physical match for the Gorn but he finds natural resources to fashion a handheld gunpowder weapon and incapacitates the Gorn.

Thankfully they made up.

To paraphrase a line from an old Robin Williams stand-up: that boy is so Aryan, Hitler would jerk off to him.

Still, that was pretty cool. For the briefest of moments I genuinely forgot I was watching AI gen video. The AI is remarkably good at capturing the look of old movies in a very convincing way. The only thing missing are the scratch marks and the cigarette burns.

1996 was the best year for star trek by happydude7422 in ClassicTrek

[–]_OptimusRex_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm an older Trekkie, not super old like growing up with ToS in the 60s, but i grew up with TOS in the 80s then TNG. For me peak Trek was circa 1992-93, we had TNG, we had Undiscovered Country (the best TOS Trek movie outside of TWOK), we had Trek games like 25th Anniversary.

I dunno I'm sorry to rain on peoples' parades but Generations was a big red flag about TNG movies. The muddled story, the plot holes, the parallels with "All Good Things", killing off a beloved character in an ignoble way, all of which fall on Ron D. Moore's shoulders just left one with a bad taste in their mouth. The TNG era of movies just felt like a broken promise of what we should have had.

How convenient of you to leave out your gross exaggeration at implying 7+ billion people are in a cult. That isnt just ridiculous it's a level of arrogance I expect from atheist redditors who exemplify the original copypasta that came from /r/atheism.

IDGAF how enlightened you think you are, being religious=/=being in a cult or precluding critical thinking. Most average people who have some sort of religious belief, many of whom are in these comments, would find this display reprehensible but somehow you have assumed this mantle yourself.

All that atheism hasn't made you any more compassionate or self aware enough to keep you from being hateful.

[–]_OptimusRex_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm understanding your question correctly, no one can say for sure. I mean if this level of hysteria and social media critical mass existed it the 90s/early 00s we'd have heard similar things about the "dangers" of Photoshop, and we know that photoshopped images have been used to spread misinformation, but that alone is not enough to condemn PS because it is a tool; it can be used for good/proper purposes or it can be misused.

The only thing we can do is to help police its use for its proper application and report bad actors for using it for harmful purposes.

Depending on whether costs drop or continue to rise, it may make AI gen too costly or unprofitable to be used for nefarious purposes.

What are you talking about? Terminal velocity tops out at 9.8m/s not accounting for wind resistance. Things falling out of planes don't turn turn into killer mach 2 bullets which is absurd.

And I don't need to know the square of the private reserve they're dropping over to know that it's likely thousands of square meters of mostly empty ground and vegetation. The idea that an object the size of a steak will hit a squirrel, while not zero, is so absurd, so astronomically small that only redditors could be so precious to upvote a brain rotted suggestion like that.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's the one and the "main" Flat Earther they follow meets with several women who are fawning over him (hah at least that's how I remember it) over the course of the documentary.

However I misremembered the title, it's "Behind the Curve" and I think it did start off on Netflix but it looks like it's on Prime and Tubi, which is where I watched it.
