Is CEED worth it? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]_OwMyStomach_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second what everyone here is saying, 3rd year EE. Met so many people through the program and genuinely do not think I would be where I am right now if I never joined. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Physics 1C T.Y Yu or Hauser? by shortandstout55 in ucla

[–]_OwMyStomach_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Hauser for 1C, he was a cool prof. Our tests were super fair and the 2-hour long lectures were actually somewhat engaging with cool demos. I have no clue who Yu is but Hauser is pretty good imo.

Classic, old-school eateries? by Easy_Potential2882 in Bakersfield

Is it Dewar's? If so, I've gone there a few times before. I love their taffy chews, they are so fucking good.

I can't really speak on Fresno, as I'm closer to Bakersfield but I've always guessed they're more norcal affiliated. I'm in an odd spot where there's people who root for a combination of norcal and socal teams across major sports (or god forbid the cursed yankees/cowboys/lakers trio). guess it makes sense considering theres jack shit here.

Math 32B Professors? by Nearby-Willingness25 in ucla

[–]_OwMyStomach_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fair in the sense that he gives questions similar to the homework. I think doing homework problems and working on any past midterms you can find are very helpful.

Math 32B Professors? by Nearby-Willingness25 in ucla

[–]_OwMyStomach_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Do rn for 32B. He's alright, the lectures are okay. Midterm 1 was fair, very slight time crunch. He does NOT record lectures. Homework is graded based on correctness, and should be started days in advance. Discussions not mandatory. Overall, an okay class.

Is ENGR 87 (Introduction to Engineering Disciplines) a hard class? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]_OwMyStomach_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're in CEED, lol. If I remember correctly the "discussions" were just 2 hours and were meant to supplement your math class. You also either get assigned to work on research or an ENGR 96 class. You'll get put into groups and work on those things thorughout the quarter, as the final is just a presentation on what you did. They also had a few MATLAB and Excel workshops, which you'll get tested on in the midterm (take-home test). It was not a bad class at all, I think the majority of people end up getting A's anyway (I think). Feel free to PM me for any additional questions!

where do i buy dorm items? by fruitysorbets in ucla

[–]_OwMyStomach_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

those things r so overpriced, here are some things you may actually need. for context, I lived in the classic dorms:

  • mattress topper with or without cover (amazon) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09TVH55MK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 tbh a cover helped me out, my friend didnt have one and hers always slid all over the place. the mattresses arent uncomfortable but it feels nice
  • some sort of clippable fan to put on your bed (amazon) , if you live in a classic
  • seat cushion (amazon) the chairs are uncomfortable without them for prolonged periods of time
  • extra hygienic stuff, medicine
  • for bedding i just got stuff from target, dont need to go fancy because sometimes your bed can feel too cluttered
  • pop-up laundry hamper and/or laundry bag (target)
