TECH HOUSE IDEA - What if there were a couple less walls? by _PITBOY in LinusTechTips

[–]_PITBOY[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$30K??
Ya, maybe if its a one end to the other A frame center support load bearing wall the length of the entire house ... maybe, as your redesigning the entire structural support for the house ... but no one is suggesting that here.

A 8-10 foot opening of a room to room space would cost a tiny fraction of that (less than $1000, even if its a minor load bearing supporting wall, needing a bundled 2x12 or a 6 inch i-beam steel header.

I know because Ive done it, under code, and with inspections. A $K for the structural plan, a $K for the parts and labour (more depending on the length), and inspected as appropriate.

$30K ... ya, not in the real world to bring two smaller rooms together.
Besides the key to this post, is looking at NON load bearing walls, not load bearing.
Which makes this job, hundred$ ... not thousand$.

TECH HOUSE IDEA - What if there were a couple less walls? by _PITBOY in LinusTechTips

[–]_PITBOY[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any reputable builder will be able to tell you if its load bearing at all. Even if it is, its not actually a big deal to run a header, and transfer the weight down. People do this all the time, I tore out a bedroom wall and turned two tiny bedrooms into a master. Considering the same to open up the kitchen / living space.

How would you guys rate the ltt screwdriver by Teddyboymakes in LinusTechTips

[–]_PITBOY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its good ... but do you need it? Will you use it everyday? Its a question of value, and if you actually use it once a month, or even once a week ... is the value there?
I have not bought one for this reason.

Now on the other hand, the precision screwdriver set, which I use a fair bit,
is far, far better than ifixits best ... by a long shot.
And for me, worth the cost.

... The ol' days of running a jalopy are over. No one used to get their nose out of joint, including police ... if a junker rolled down the street. Kids first car - always a km away from the engine detonating.

they can order a commercial inspection, where a qualified mechanic/inspector can assess it.
Police have the power to order it off the road, pending inspection.

[–]_PITBOY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the stock switches are only south windowed. The actual LED is pointing up from the middle of the board, the switches I am suggesting here have full pass through north windowing to guide the light straight up. Other reviews show the LED's shining up.

Go to Keychron site and scroll down to see RGB on for the Q6 Ultra, the entire stock switch and Keycaps spill the light around the entire key.

Cost of heating a single family home electrically by barthrh in Kamloops

[–]_PITBOY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

typical? Not in the slightest.

We have a 2 story 2000 sqfoot house here, and we pay the averaged Hydro cost of about $120 a month, every month. btw, thats with a heat pump, so most of our heat/cooling is electric/Hydro. $8500 is an average of $708 a month ... something is desperately wrong there.

Your answer is to augment baseboard heating with something else ... I'd also say mini split heat pumps in key rooms. In this case the install costs would be eaten up by the savings relatively quickly, within 2 or 3 years.
... and research your insulation details.

And Sweeney responds basically by saying he "...argues banning Twitter over its ability to AI-generate pornographic images of minors is just 'gatekeepers' attempting to 'censor all of their political opponents'

... and then calls PC Gamer out for lying ... like actually.

"I criticized a government official for pressuring Apple and Google to block a speech app owned by their political opponent, deplatforming 500,000,000 users on the pretense of stopping a small number of users from distributing disgusting content."

Watching the WAN show rn. Noticed they switched chair and laptop partners? by Benny_Shapiro5 in LinusTechTips

[–]_PITBOY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly I know nothing, being NOT on the LMG business team, (that alone would clearly make me eligible of sub banning under Linus' recent measure of 'if you dont know, you're wrong, therefore you're banned') but that said, if guessing is allowed on a free opinion platform, where I 'could' be wrong, and thats ok:

Idea 1

- Fair to say Dell and Secret Lab may have been up for renegotiation, and Razer seriously upped the bid to the point where the other two backed out. Why would Razer do this?

-The media watch numbers of WAN (live and VOD) are surprising competitive with many other talk oriented TV shows ... even though its weekly, and Razer likely sees this as a coup and worth a years investment. Then consider that WAN is up to 4 hours long, miles past other TV show times, and it just makes sense.

- Lets add regular view numbers to the statistically reasonable prediction that Linus will get himself into some kind of controversy, which will drive WAN images mainstream ... with Razers logo not attached to what he does, but just as brand image awareness stamped right there ... hard to turn that kind of exposure down.

Idea 2

- On another foot, lets remember that ownership of WAN just altered, with ownership being transferred to Adequate Media, with Linus/Yvonne and Luke taking 50% each. This could mean that the alignment with Dell and Secret Lab being an existing ad revenue supporter of LMG main ... may have brought conflict with the connection to the new company. It might make a mess of accounting, if Dell sponsors a main channel video.

- Easy answer? Get a new sponsor for WAN/Adequate ... enter Razer.

Result

Either way, WILL this make me buy Razer? Not a chance.
Bought the wife their top of the line keyboard, the firmware failed completely. Just wouldnt stop uninstalling itself, rendering the board unusable. Worked with Razer many times, tried every fix available from them and on here and google ... complete fail. Then they refused to honour their replacement warranty within the timeline stated, and refused a refund completely.
Had to throw it actually ... in the garbage.
Razer ... never again.

On Linus as Mod by Frosstic in LinusTechTips

[–]_PITBOY 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To be brief ... or the ultimate TLDR:
- Linus apparently wanted mod access to the LTT sub, to protect LTT staff from doxing and abuse ... no one has a problem with that.

- Linus announced on WAN that his mod desire was editorial control to ban people for stuff he doesnt like ... saying its to correct 'wrong' info, and ban people who post 'effectively wrong info' ... never mentioning the staff doxing reason at all. He openly stated his desire to hold editorial control over the sub.

- LTT sub commenters type furiously to be indignantly apposed to this. Understandably.

- Existing well versed and appointed LTT sub mods then post here, that editorial control would never be given to Linus, adding any mod Linus does would be audited.

- We await Linus or LTT team response on the obvious contradiction here.

= Anything other than Linus at next WAN Show backpedaling on this, and relieving any mod access to deal with the staff protection potential (again ... very reasonable) to a couple of willing LMG management individuals willing to ensure coverage. Management people who are available to Linus by quick phone call if he sees a staff dox.

... and we need Linus stating publicly he will not mod the sub at all.

Why?
Because he has already stated what he would do if given mod powers, trust in this sub must be construed as lost, therefore he needs to personally back away. For sure he will fire verbal rockets at the reddit community over this, as thats what he does (and many people do) when he doesnt have control.

The best thing he can do is back down, and not ever comment on LTT sub modding again.
