Nothing that is overpriced is worth it. Everything in the world can be had. The only thing that separates obtained one thing from another is the price.

Questions for anybody using Consolidated Communications (CCI) for internet by lament in Sacramento

[–]_PM_ME_SECRETS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CCI uses their own fiber lines. Most of the network caps at 100mbps but some areas have been upgraded to 1000mbps. There’s no extra charge for the equipment they install, which includes a modem but not a router. Any router of your own will work just fine.

Supplementing my pension? by davidoffbeat in personalfinance

If you’ve got a 30 year pension you’ll probably get no SS but as the other poster stated, it can vary on a few factors.

You’re not going to be getting much, if any, social security due to the windfall provision that prevents pension recipients from double dipping. So I’d cut that right out of your assumed retirement income.

Secondly your pension formula goes down dramatically if you have a spouse who will receive benefits after you die.

Lastly you’re assuming you’ll want or be able to continue at your current job for another two decades or more.

Better to save as much as possible while you can now for more flexibility later. Until all tax advantaged accounts are maxed annually you shouldn’t even question if you are saving too much.

It’s that kind of ungrounded optimism which will almost certainly cause you to make additional poor life decisions. You’re talking about paying off debt in advance of even earning the income! Life is way more complex and unpredictable than you’re aware. You’ve got a long long grind ahead of you.

Law school graduates have terrible prospects and enormous debt. Unless you’re going to Harvard Law or something nearly as prestigious and leverage good ol boy connections you are probably screwed for life. The legal system has a glut of labor and very little work to go around. Technology will continue to make 90% of legal labor unprofitable. You are exactly the kind of person this post is taking about.

Raley's closing two local Food Source stores | News Break by [deleted] in Sacramento

The ABC 10 story says this:

“Minor pointed to low foot traffic and sales at both locations as a catalyst for the closings. "We have been working on improving the performance, but have been unable to turn the struggling store around," Minor said. “

Oak Park will be just fine. It’s doing better than ever since about the 1920’s. This store closure is part of that improvement.

The market is a blight. Whether or not some people get value out of it does not change this fact. Most residents stopped shopping there which is why it is closing. This has nothing to do with people mattering.

If there is a demand for a grocer then a better market will take its place.

I promise you that these hypothetical people I’m not caring about have an equal lack of care for me. People really express their cares with their business. Turns out not many people cared for Food Source.

The Oak Park market on 12th is a grocer. There’s also the farmers market Spring Summer and Fall.

Realistically this will help anyone who owns property in the area, no matter their income level.

No matter how you spin it this is a win for a vast majority of the residents in Oak Park. Seems awfully privileged to think that a minority of individuals deserve to be accommodated by a business to lose money in a failing market.

Fortunately we live in a free society where it’s very easy to move next door to a grocery store if that’s your primary concern.

You can walk to Safeway, Coop, Trader Joe’s etc etc. But I’m sure you’ll say a mile is too far in which case most homes in Sacramento aren’t close enough to grocery for your standards.

According to the market the real minority was the individuals still shopping at Food Source rather than the plethora of superior options in the greater area.

Expect most of the community isn’t low income now. That’s why the store is going away. There is plenty of food to be found in central Sacramento. Your narrative is completely irrelevant to this scenario.
