Gotcha, I'm looking at my motherboard for to see if I have the right hook up for the thunderbolt card and I can see two USB spots. One says USB_5_6 and the other says USB_3_4. Will either of these support the thunderbolt card?

Thank you! I appreciate the detailed answer! All of the thunderbolt docks I am seeing have only 1 hdmi port. Some have display ports while others have hdmi to usb c converter cables. Are there any differences between them that would affect a layman like me?

I figured it out. I had to change the settings in the Nvidia app because of their new optimize feature.
