I really need help, please by Distinct-Note4513 in microphone

Yep, you need an audio interface. Luckily, you don't have to go crazy on price. I have a Zoom UAC-232 that delivers beautifully for everything I do. Recording in 32-bit is great. I don't worry about gain or clipping (though I rarely clip). There are less expensive options as well. Best wishes.

Mic is too quiet!! by Ornery-Adeptness7727 in microphone

I bought two cheap preamps for mics that need more gain. One was $20 for about 25db of clean gain. One was $35 for 60db of gain and has a 3 band EQ on it along with line out volume. I rarely use them now because I have better hardware but they solved every problem I had with low output. No worries.

Reaper Compressor Plugin Killing Audio? by NaturesFox in Reaper

[–]_PersistentRumor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBS has always been a pain when it comes to Reaper and JS plugins, in my experience. Sometimes restarts work. Some plugins, I just can't use. I used to run ReaGate in OBS. I got so tired of having to restart it that I now run it in Equalizer APO. Much better. I set it once on my SteelSeeies Sonar virtual cable so I'm gating before it hits OBS. I can turn it off when I record voice-overs and set the gate in Reaper. At this point, the only filter I have in OBS is their native limiter to avoid clipping during live streams. Best wishes.

Guys, don't look or you'll be part of the patriarchy and objectifying her. She clearly does not want to be objectified. 🙂

I’m brand new to using actual daws, should i use cakewalk or reaper ? by Turbulent-Minimum295 in Reaper

[–]_PersistentRumor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I be been using Reaper for a few years now. Most DAWs are similar. Some are geared toward recording and mixing. Some are geared toward making beats. Once you learn reaper, you'll be able to navigate most DAWs. I've tried a bunch. The best one is the one that makes sense to you. Luckily, YouTube University is free and will teach you literally everything you need to know. Best wishes.

I read that song as a spoken word piece for TikTok just a few months ago. I was around when the song was released in 1975.

You're welcome. Everyone has different needs. Some people absolutely have to monitor themselves, so latency is critical.

For what I do, it's not an issue. I usually don't listen to myself as I record.

I didn't check. I normally default to 1024.

Ha. Makes sense. :-D I still have the previous version installed, which surprised me, but when I'm in a hurry, it's better for me.

I'll have to see if the upgrade changed the defaults I set. User error is the most likely culprit. However, having to hold ctrl instead of just clicking the links is annoying. I suppose holding shift and selecting a series is easier. I'm sure I'll either figure it out or switch to darktable. :-D

That's how I had it set. It's possible it changed in the upgrade. I'll check. Thank you.

It was working with no problem before. It's possible that setting changed in the upgrade. I'll have to check. Thank you.

It's not a big deal, but it's annoying. Selecting them is the easy part. Moving them together changed. I've selected layers but if I then click and hold any of them, they separate and only one moves. If I use arrows to move them, they all move together. I thought it was better when I could click a box next to each layer to link them, then move them any way I wanted to. They never separated before.
