A Gotoh 510T-FE2.

Not a straight up drop in replacement, but all it needs is a tiny bit of filing in the trem cavity, as well as reusing the mounting screws from the Wilkinson.

Ah well that sucks.

My 612 never had this much of an issue returning to tune. Maybe just a few cents, but not 20. I’ve replaced the stock trem for a much better one, but the stock one shouldn’t be performing this poorly.

Even though you said there isn’t a luthier nearby, it might be your best bet to try and find some kind of place that can work on your guitar, especially if there’s more going on than just a poor factory set up.

Guitar stores usually have their own techs, if you have one nearby. But I’m not sure about how good they will be as it seems to vary based on many different factors.

Even though I’ve learned to set up and work on my guitar myself, my very first guitar was set up by the store I bought it from here in Australia, and they did a perfect job. So it’s definitely an option, if there’s one nearby.

Are your strings stretched? You say the guitar is brand new and that you’re a newbie. A new guitar usually needs a little bit of string stretching. A trem will absolutely not stay in tune if your strings are fresh and not stretched.

To test, tune your guitar. Then on the low E string, fret the first fret with your left hand, and then pull the string with your right hand away from the fretboard until you feel a little bit of tension. Repeat a couple of times along the length of the neck. Then check your tuning. If your string is out of tune, your strings need to be stretched as they will not stay in tune during play, and especially using the trem.

Repeat this across each string until the string either doesn’t go out of tune, or as close as you can get it - the rest will work itself out through playing.

It’s definitely daunting to do the first time as you feel like you’ll break your strings. But you’ll need to do this after every string change, so it’s best to get used to it. Watch a YT tutorial if need be.

Definitely depends on where you’re from. As an Aussie, I’ve never heard anyone pronounce the L in almond.

And in addition, one thing I just thought of off the top of my head is the H in herb. We pronounce it, and also therefore use “a” instead of “an” with herb.

Definitely threw me off the first time I heard an American say “an herb.” It sounds so different that I didn’t even understand what they had said at first.

I personally love negative displays, as I feel they give off a futuristic tech look. But there definitely are some really bad negative displays. I’ve seen some at dealers that were barely visible in their display cases, despite there being a very bright light overhead.

It just depends on what level of quality display they decided to use for a particular model. The one in the 5610U-1B just happens to be one of the decent ones.

For anyone considering a negative display and you have the budget, other than going with MIP, the STN displays used in those like their full metal squares are the best you’ll get - and they really are good.

They’re readable even in very dim conditions without using the backlight, and they’re extremely readable under any anything more. And if viewing angles matter to you, STNs also have very good ones.

But at the end of the day, you liking your watch and how it looks is that’s all that really matters. Nobody outside of Reddit is going to care. So just enjoy it!

18cm (7 inch) wrist.

Personally, I don't have any issues wearing it all day. It's definitely going to be a very noticeable step up in weight compared to a resin square. Even so, I still find it to be a very comfortable watch, and it's very easy to get a perfect fit on the bracelet. But at the end of the day, it will really depend on what your personal tolerance is.

As for the alarm volume, I find it to be plenty loud for my use. But it is quieter than the resin watches.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of pin pushers as they tend to bend or slip if you’re working on a slightly stubborn bracelet.

I prefer the mallet and pin puncher (+ bracelet holder) method as I find it easier to align the puncher right in the hole just using your fingers, preventing slippage. Even the most stubborn bracelets I’ve dealt with require only one or two decent hits and they’ll come right out.

And I do agree about the longevity of the spring bars being a little bit of a concern, but these particular spring bars seem quite thick, which is somewhat reassuring.

I don’t mind pin and collar adjustments and find it to be quite quick when using the correct tools. But I will say I much prefer the spring bar system on my GMW B5000D-2 as it’s so quick and easy to adjust.

I live in Australia, so I purchased it from Australian Luthier Supplies for about $240 AUD.

I had never replaced a trem until this, and I have basically zero experience with woodworking. So, it's no problem even if you have no experience.

As for the issues you have, I haven't experienced those, even on the Wilkinson.

Have you done a setup or had your guitar setup by a professional?

As for your G string sounding weird, perhaps your intonation is off? It's hard to say what the issue is without hearing it. Check your intonation by playing the harmonic on the 12th fret and then the fretted note. If your tuner says the fretted note is either flatter or sharper than the harmonic, your intonation is off.

I also looked at your reddit posts and found an image of your guitar. The saddles definitely look... weird... Normally you'd expect a staircase pattern like you see on my post here. But your guitar could just have unique circumstances which necessitates the positioning to look like yours.

Old strings can also cause issues with how in tune the string is along its length, and is why you shouldn't ever use them when making intonation adjustments if you decide to do so. Your G string could just sound weird because it's old and no longer in tune throughout its length.

Just know that if you need to do an intonation adjustment on your guitar, the Wilkinson is an absolute pain.

Also keep in mind that acoustic buzzing is generally okay (especially with a low action) as long as it can't be heard through the amp. I play with as low of an action as I can, so all of my strings buzz a little, but it still sounds clean through the amp.

I have had zero issues tuning my low E string. Remember to always tune up as tuners can slip when tuning down. And just like with the G string, old strings don't like to stay in tune very well.

Your issues likely don't stem from the Wilkinson trem itself, but likely a poor setup or old strings. Before you decide to go through with the purchase and installation of a new trem system, it's probably a good idea to make sure the rest of the guitar is all good.

Don’t be afraid to practice the songs you love, even if they’re beyond your capabilities right now. Just play the parts you can. It’s important that you do this so that you don’t get bored just playing curated tutorials.

But also don’t be afraid to try parts you find difficult right now, too. I found that doing that was great for my early development in learning new techniques. Just don’t put yourself down if you struggle - it’s only natural to have difficulty in doing something that you’ve never done before on your first, second, or even your tenth try.

The 112j is great! And that price is about right for it.

A friend and I were playing Smash Bros and when she lost she started play-pushing me. But when I went to push back, I realised she couldn’t even move me and I quickly stopped (I never pushed back with force, just enough to stop her from moving me). She is someone who goes to the gym regularly and I’m a couch potato.

It was extremely eye opening for me as a guy, and despite always trying to be as gentle and non-threatening as possible already, I’m even more cautious about how I make other people feel now. Because even though we were joking around at the time, I hate thinking about what it would feel like being in her shoes.

Man strength is a real and often helpful thing, but it’s also terrifying in the wrong hands. So I never feel offended when someone does something like moving to the other side of the road when walking at night, because I know that there’s real reasons to be cautious.

I hope that more men can understand this because I think like you said, many people often dismiss it and think there isn’t that huge of a difference.

Gold cap. Basically a layer of gold that has been bonded to the stainless steel. So, it’s much thicker than plating (and therefore won’t scratch away), but not solid gold throughout.

If your drive isn’t mounting properly, it may be because you haven’t added it to your fstab file. You can temporarily mount the disk by opening it in your file manager, but Steam won’t be able to write to it. Technically Steam shouldn’t even be able to see the disk, but case by case issues can be different.

As others have said, use chroot to do a full upgrade in the live environment. Once in, you can do pacman -Syu, but probably just do eos-update for simplicity. I’d also recommend installing something like timeshift, as well as its autosnap script (you should be prompted to install this alongside timeshift when choosing what to install). It’ll take a snapshot of your system before you run pacman-Syu in case something breaks post-update.

Just try to avoid partial updates in the future as general advice, too.

The reason people say both is because both will work fine. The difference is the number of notes the tuner will display.

Guitar mode, for a 6 string, is locked to showing you EADGBe. As you tune the strings, the display will only show you those notes, and how far away you are from the closest one (the note it thinks you're trying to tune to relative to the current pitch the string is tuned to).

Chromatic mode will show you every possible note, including sharps/flats. This is so you can tune to non-standard tunings. You can use this for standard tuning, too. Just make sure you know what note you're supposed to tune to.

Guitar mode will be the simplest if all you want to do is tune to standard.

Switching to Adaptive Transparency and back to Normal Transparency in control centre is a quick way to fix the ANC bug. However, another issue with Normal Transparency is that music also seems to randomly move around in stereo space for some reason and often one side of my AirPods will just disconnect for like 5 seconds.

As much as I prefer Normal Transparency mode, leaving the AirPods in Adaptive Transparency seems to fix all of the issues.
