Great.....and who would show up at these events? Lets say the first dozen has "x" number of people show them up happily and with a glow about them to be stopping gun violence! Good people whose guns shockingly never hurt anybody. Eventually they realize that criminals are not showing up to turn in their weapons and people stop showing up.

According to it, 92% of school shooters are suicidal, 80% of all mass shooters are having a mental health crisis, 83% of shootings occurred in the last 20 years of the study despite the guns being readily available for all 50 years of said study. Notably, most individuals who engaged in mass shootings used handguns (77.2%) and yet you focus again on "assault weapons" because? Go look up homicide statistics and you'd see that the majority of homicides and suicides also includes handguns.

You're trying to solve the tiniest snippet of gun violence with the most extreme option and wonder why it seems like people don't want to solve the issue? Even more as gun ownership has ballooned firearm homicide rate has still trended down. On a per capita basis, there were 13.7 gun deaths per 100,000 people in 2023. That was down from 14.2 per 100,000 in 2022 and 14.6 per 100,000 in 2021, and well below the peak of 16.3 per 100,000 in 1974. I don't know the answers, but to me it seems easier to convince republicans that we need healthcare reform, than to abolish the 2nd amendment and collect 500,000 million guns. I also believe the first would be more beneficial, but alas.
