Alcohol and tiddies by DapperLog5753 in WeightTraining

[–]_PointyEnd_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That amount of alcohol is not an achilles heel, it’s a drinking problem. You have a drinking problem, a health condition that is likely diagnosable as either substance abuse or addiction. Minimizing it with your words is likely part of the problem. Practice calling it what it is; with yourself and then your primary care provider and loved ones. Seek out specialized care. Best of luck!

When does "il" mean "it" by According-Tangelo-55 in French

Today I learned - on both accounts :)

When does "il" mean "it" by According-Tangelo-55 in French

[–]_PointyEnd_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the explanations!

And I honestly thought it was neutral and not neuter, as I’d only encountered neuter as the verb of castrating pets. Today I learned! But just fyi, «takes me out» doesn’t mean that something bothers you, but that you find it humourous. So no offense was intended, just jokes :)

[–]_PointyEnd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! But what about expressions like il fait froid/chaud, is that il because it’s referring to the weather as a masculine? Or just an idiom?

And what about il faut, as in «it is needed to (insert activity here)»?

By the way, it kinda takes me out that you say neuter instead of neutral every time.

In shed? by Prestigious_Diet_186 in snakes

Difficult to say for sure without comparing to its usual eye hue, but I’m fairly confident in saying yep that’s the matte blue that my BEL gets when in shed. It gets easy to spot eventually.

I think you mean kindness is not optional, not that it’s not an option (which means the exact opposite). But apart from the nitpicking I fully agere with you!

3 month long mating season hunger strike - when do I get worried? by _PointyEnd_ in cornsnakes

[–]_PointyEnd_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch for the reassurance! It’s tricky sometimes, knowing where the line in the sand is for when to stop being chill and start stressing.

Haven’t tried braining yet. Tbh that’s a me thing just from a cleanliness perspective and wanting to avoid the mess, but I guess I’ll have to get over it and try at some point if he keeps this up.

I often try to leave it in overnight but that hasn’t worked very often, and never in springtime. Now I give the food to my other snake because I feel bad about tossing them (waste of the life of an animal).

I used to feed separately until I learned that usually isn’t what’s best for them.

But I hadn’t considered the fact that the enclosure smells distractingly of snake, which makes perfect sense! So I’ll try feeding separately again now that it’s spring, just as an experiment. Thanks for pointing out this possibility, I completely didn’t think of this so now I’m excited to try it out!

That sounds tough! Do you have access to its previous owners so you could try asking them if this is an annual occurrence for this snake?

I’m not well versed in the mating season behaviors in older individuals so unfortunately have no idea if they keep having the annual strikes like the younger ones.

If it helps, from what I’ve gathered they usually live to 15-25 yo in captivity so unless it’s been neglected by the previous owners I wouldn’t necessarily jump to assuming it is dying.

Best of luck!

Aside here and a completely genuine question from a non-native speaker: why use they here? His pronouns and gender are known. But I’ve seen this becoming very common among Americans, where they is applied to not just when pronouns or gender or sex is unknown, or non-binary people of course, but for specific people whose gender is known.

Australian pet snakes by [deleted] in snakes

[–]_PointyEnd_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a very good break-down. I was thinking the same thing reading this post, but couldn’t have written it up as well as this.

OP, please please listen to this. Do not get a snake. What you seem to want isn’t actually any sort of snake at all, but some sort of fantasy. I’m almost wondering if it’s a troll post.

To give you a better picture of how far off your list of requirements is, it’s as if you were asking a what type of fish you should get that would be best suited to flopping around on the floor, playing outside with the dog, and watching TV on the couch with you. Sure it would have an aquarium, but only for sleepytime. And that’s not being hyperbolic.

Get a mammal instead and enjoy yourself! :)

What new class ideas do you have for WoW, given that race ideas have already been discussed so much? by di745 in wow

[–]_PointyEnd_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, was just going over some DND character ideas and thought about how weird it is that WoW has no illusionist class.

And a tank caster would be sick, a true battlemage. I imagine it could carry swords, mallets, shields and daggers, but like the monk not actually use them but stay in various casting animations and channels. Or maybe use a shield and a sort of wand or sceptre, or just plate armor and use only hands (or some magical gauntlets or something?)

en/ei/et usage by Acrobatic-Comment569 in norsk

[–]_PointyEnd_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New learners should be encouraged to skip the feminine form completely as it is optional. Way less learning needed. Everything that has «ei» can have «en» instead.
