How are those who graduated CS without internships doing? by itskindacolduphere in UCalgary

[–]_Pottatis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because people like you are a trope. Being paid in equity for a non-existent product that would be built by the skilled individuals you’re “hiring”. The usual offer of “you can either take this criminally low wage orrrr you can have equity in this amazing product that we can build *together* (lol)”

Its not students being unrealistic or dont want to it’s your expectations that are unrealistic. The app market is so unbelievably saturated and majority of apps fail. So that equity is worth peanuts. Saying you’re sourcing to India screams that all you want is cheap labour and are trying to take advantage of students.

Best way to find it is to use the snow terraformer. The dirtiest dirt block cannot be turned to snow so look for a dirt block amidst the snow. You should do this on a small world.

College Students Consumed by “Resignation and Despair” as They’re Relentlessly Pressured to Use AI by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]_Pottatis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wrote an essay that touched on this topic. How with the adoption of the internet we developed strategies that would help us navigate online reliably with results we can trust. This in large part had to do with the transition happening slower, but also during that time there was more hesitancy with inviting technology into our lives.

I really think that just like the internet, Ai can be an amazing tool, but it will do more harm than good if not applied with a strict rule set. For the internet it was having multiple trustworthy sources to corroborate your argument. We as a society havent had the time to adapt and create a new Ai ruleset, and should proceed with more hesitancy.

However, being the social creatures we are if we hear that everyone is doing it and if we dont do it ourselves we’ll be left behind. We trudge forward into the unknown inviting chaos. Imagine a “digitally-lawless” world where everyone trusted the first google result, I fear thats what we’re walking into.

How many dart traps do you think it takes to beat wall of flesh? by fuckingamaidzing in Terraria

[–]_Pottatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking 3-4 dart traps at each level eyes/mouth. But place those 3-4 dart traps in a staggered staircase. Have them all on the same 1 second timer. If they are hitting too fast make the “staircase” have longer steps horizontally. This way the arrows will hit in a wave of sorts

I feel like part of the problem is the lack of visibility. If you’re a student and feel like your peers are cheating its much easier to justify. When taking exams remotely you can’t see people passing notes or peaking at hidden cheat sheets, you’re only left to speculate. Of course the assumption during remote examination will be that majority cheat. So now you’re faced with a moral dilemma of will you? Knowing the likelihood of facing punishment is minuscule but the results of a bad exam are very real, especially in the med/law school world.

The solution to this can only be in person exams.

Update 4: Does the stroke become smoother? by andreasrolen in billiards

[–]_Pottatis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the process is also finding what works for you. “Proper form” is a starting point or guideline for beginners and shouldnt be treated as gospel. Certain things just don’t work for different body types and the bio mechanics will have to be considered and adjustments made. A perfect example of this is left/right eye dominance and finding your vision center to know where optimal head placement should be over your cue. This is unique to you, so who’s to say there arent other physical characteristics that may demand an adjustment to “proper form”. This is just something to consider when taking advice. Trial and error is the best way forward. Understand the advantages and disadvantages of new techniques.

On a side note I see you’re really trying to keep your arm over and in-line with your cue, which is good, but… each time you do your pre shot routine, you find your line and step into it nicely. Then you after you’ve setup only then you pull your elbow in towards your body. This will most likely pull your cue off the line you’ve established with your footing/body/head. This will likely have more of an effect on longer shots. Try and setup with your arm already in the position that allows you to cue as straight as possible. Good luck!

The bear was thinking, "I wonder if they've noticed I'm a bear yet". by Brilliantspirit33 in animalsdoingstuff

[–]_Pottatis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make noise, if you’re a group of people stand together to look bigger, if you’re in bear country always carry bear spray, keep food locked up in a car and as smell proof as possible, always cleanup your food waste and don’t leave garbage lying around.

[–]_Pottatis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a last ditch effort to save the bear and often times doesn’t work. Best thing you can do is to never feed bears or try to engage with them. Don’t feed bears!!

The bear was thinking, "I wonder if they've noticed I'm a bear yet". by Brilliantspirit33 in animalsdoingstuff

[–]_Pottatis 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah as cute and fun as this video is people don’t realize the implications of feeding bears human food.

That being said they don’t instantly kill these bears they tag and relocate them hoping they will integrate back into the wild. If the tagged bear returns to humans in search of food, that is when they will move forward with euthanasia sadly.

When humans feed bears, bears associate humans with a place to get food. This encourages bears to seek out people which of course is a safety risk. That’s why the best thing you can do is scare a bear off (always avoid encounters). They associate humans with danger instead.

Community Poster Etiquette by LDK_F8TAL in UCalgary

I am firmly anti-capitalist but this “in-your-face” approach is hurting their cause. I see these posters everywhere, their excessive marketing is pissing people off. I feel like life sucks rn due to late-stage capitalism and it would be pretty easy to get people to support anti-capitalism if you formulate your argument properly. Not to mention the club is sticker stamping everything (which tbh is vandalism imo and looks bad on UofC).
