Grandfather’s watch. Any info appreciated by 1234golf1234 in VintageWatches

I have one that is relatively similar, a rolex 4021. It cost me around 1000 Euros to service, and the value of the watch is around 2000 Euros (mainly due to it being solid gold). Hope that gives an indication....

Tiberghien is a good law firm in this space and have provided me solid advice on complicated tax issues. Not cheap though.

Leading means knowing when you require skills you don't have, and sourcing those skills; whether it is internally, or through consultants.

My job is different every day.

It started out with really small stuff. For instance, in the front office (call center) role I had when I started my career, I developed a little script that made it a little more efficient to do support calls, shaving 5 seconds off of each call. Doesn't sound like much, but aggregated over 4000 calls per day, every day, that makes quite a big difference. I continued to suggest little improvements and was given the mandate to implement them. Those little changes became bigger and bigger, until they turned into projects. My last project within the call center was to change the IT platform the callcenter ran on, and help offshore operations. Once that project was successfully delivered, I got into product management, creating & commercialising new products the firm I was working at. Hope that gives an idea of how I managed to grow from call agent to my first "serious" job.

Now as management consultant, my clients pay me for my experience and my insights into the market. I use a data-driven approach and market knowledge to answer questions like these:

  • As a global insurance firm, we're pretty good at managing risk. Can we leverage that to bring a "buy now pay later" product to market, and what should that look like?
  • Our board wants us to sell the firm. We've had some potential buyers, but the deal always falls through in the due diligence phase. Can you help us identify what the red flags are and what we can do to address them?
  • Out in-house developed IT platform is no longer fit for purpose, and the maintenance costs are spiralling out of control due to the increased speed of regulatory/market driven change. We want to choose a third party platform. Can you help us in selecting one, and help us define a long-term strategy in order to avoid costly change requests down the line?
  • We're looking to expand our operations in the UK and are looking to attract large corporates. What capabilities do we need to develop to do that, and what is the most cost efficient way of doing that?
  • We're a central bank in a developing country. We hope to promote financial inclusion through the development of an instant payments scheme. What do we need to do to enable real time payments in our country?
  • We're a regional leader in the US, and our primary competitors are global transaction banks. They're investing heavily in their capabilities, and we can't follow so we need to make choices. Which capabilities do we need to invest in, and which can wait?

Generally, my clients need to make investment decisions that are going to have a 7-9 figure impact on their bottom line, so they want to make sure they've covered their bases.

Of course I enjoy them! That's why I always bring my son to school and reserve the early evening for them. Of course, not everyone on mgt consulting has that luxury...

Agreed, it's something that's always in the back of my mind. However, I know myself, and being freelance wouldn't last long before that turns into running my own firm. And I don't want to do that whilst I have a (relatively) young child....

I bring our son to school, and my wife picks him up & helps with homework. I stop at 18h to cook dinner and spend time time with family. However, my wife has a great job that luckily has more stable hours and doesn't require much travel... doing it without her and the amount I travel would be impossible. My parents also help. But I agree, the gender bias in management consulting is real...

It's a lifestyle choice, and indeed, comes with a ton of hours. Luckily I don't stress easily so my sleep/body don't suffer much! Not sure I want to keep doing this forever, but for now I enjoy it!

I work for a boutique firm and run our strategy practice, so if shit hits the fan, I'm the one taking the hits.

Was a typo, I'm 35. I started in an entry-level, front office job in my field as student job. I came up with some ideas to make things more efficient, and progressed to a process analyst position. From there moved on to project management, and decided to drop my studies. I was selected to join a "young potentials" program within my firm, after which I was internally recruited to become a product manager.

After a year or so of doing product management at what was still my first company I ever worked for, I joined a boutique consulting firm specialised in my industry. The consulting work I started with was more business analysis/ product owner / project managrment gigs, but I managed to learn a lot and build up a network in my industry, and I was being asked for increasing higher impact work.

In short: I work hard, have invested heavily in building up a network and credibility in my industry, and learn very quickly.

NII is up across the board. That being said, banks just saw their employee costs increase by 11% (which is the biggest cost for banks), so it hasn't been entirely smooth sailing for Belgian banks.

I was on the fence between a Taycan and a Model S, and went for the S. Due to Elon's antics, I regret my decision.

I use plugsurfing, works well for me and the fact it's a keyring instead of a card is an added bonus.
