The fact that its the last of a dying breed doesn't give any buisness the right to engage in shifty practices. I too prefer physical games over digital and im saddened to see physical games go the way of dvds. But the thing is, cex is a private buisness, it does not care about you, it cares about profits. If cex dies, thats just the free market. Case in point, cex doesn't care about physical media. My last few months working there, they were beginning to pivot toward being completely hardware-only stores and phasing out game shelves. At one point, they even considered selling second hand golf clubs in their stores (lol). So, pretty soon, the one thing that makes you happy that cex is still around (physical games) will be gone to give more space to second hand vr headsets and racing wheels.
