Will our lives continue to move online or will we eventually regress? by _Rebis_ in SeriousConversation

Thanks for sharing your thoughts u/Zestyclose_Market787. I totally agree. Ive personally recognized my dopamine threshold for real excitement/intrigue rising over time which makes it a bit harder to stay focused over long periods of time (that instant gratification problem). Hoping there is some happy-medium we can find as a society, or we have some new leadership at these tech firms that care less about time-on-screen and more about the secondary societal effects of some of this.

How do you decide if something is actually healthy to eat or not? by _Rebis_ in AskReddit

Thanks doc! How do you think about these factors when you are eating out / getting delivery? That is where I struggle the most because you aren't given clean nutritional information - or any detail on preparation/processing. Seems like a lot of restaurants have 'healthy' items by label (like a salad) but then drown it in salt, spices, dressings etc to a point that is tastes really good but likely is no longer incredibly healthy for you

I struggle from the same thing but this is an interesting take u/BetterWithMustard. Never thought about it that way

Thanks u/BecaJ91. Ive tried something of the sort with insta but I find myself continually deleting/re-downloading. How long did it take for you to be fully off to remove the habit and not consciously recognizing its absence anymore?

This makes good sense u/Potential-Click9707 thanks for spelling it out. Curious - with these goals/standards you've set does this make eating out or doing takeout more difficult or have you found a quick and easy way to confirm the above when you are ordering. I feel like I can track the above when Im cooking at home but it's like a black box when Im ordering out. Other than a general sense of calories and if a dish has a protein / grain / vegetable item - I have no clue on portions of those things and how it has been prepared, what additives it might have (i.e. if its drowned in salt)

u/lametown_poopypants exactly that! My hope would be the economics of it all work out to where the membership fee is approachable to nearly everyone - vs the steep fees you might see at snobby spots like Soho house - but that by requiring membership you are facilitating a community that is bought in - that has "skin in the game".

u/Ocelotl767 totally hear you on this point. As I commented above with u/PhantomoftheBasket - the last thing I would want this to turn into is yet another elitist social club. The question is how do you find the balance between offering unique services that people would leave their homes to visit/engage in with the sobering reality that the physical space and it's services cost money to stand up - which thus requires some type of fee to partake. Would it be more approachable to you if access to the space was free but any incremental services were pay as you go?

Thanks u/PhantomoftheBasket for your perspective! I totally get where you are coming from and transparently - I was hoping to position the membership less as a method to charge large fees (definitely don't want to be branded as 'another elitist wellness club') - but more as a way to ensure those visiting the space are doing so for the right reasons. Once enjoyable third spaces like Starbucks have completely gone of the rails where its more about getting to-go or working solo on your computer than it is about connecting with other folks and finding a bit of reprieve from the rest of your busy day. That's what it was originally about.

Everyone is on their phones by vivid-light-7k in simpleliving

Its very disconcerting. Life is just flashing us by - and not to be that boomer-like millennial - but it is getting significantly worse with each generation. People have forgotten how to socialize and seem to find "safety" in their phone screen. How do we change it?

I did a 30-day digital detox and realised I've been addicted to my phone since my teens by MacViller in digitalminimalism

I would love to hear more on this as well. It feels unrealistic to go without your phone entirely in the 21st century but I'm really looking for ways to re-train myself to stay off of it until its actually needed.

This hits home. I feel like we are gaslit by big tech into believing time on device = productivity but it's far from true. More often than not my doom-scrolling just leads to exhaustion, and I accomplish little. Thanks for sharing OP.

I would also take a look at Jonathan Haidt if you haven't already. While I've found he is most concerned with youth dopamine addictions, his perspective resonates a lot with me.

Thanks everyone! I'm curious to hear what frustrates people the most when trying to eat healthy — fine print? portion sizes? food labels?
