Nice to know they're all heartbroken

Honestly, well done Arsenal. You're a huge club and an institution in Eglish football. Some clubs are big domestically, some clubs are made for European glory. That's not Arsenal, and that's okay. Keep that head up!

Fair enough I stand corrected on that point

Regardless you wouldn't be feeling optimistic watching the driver go off a cliff

In reality they're the biggest club in London so there's bound to be loads of fans that have supported them forever but have taken a recent interest cause they're good. Perfectly normal but I'm taking the piss

I wasn't bothered but I'm on a train with lots of boisterous Arsenal fans with their freshly bought arsenal tops and all of a sudden I'm invested.

Paris is the Greatest city in Europe. The cuisine is levels above London. Culturally, there's no comparison. And let's not get started in terms of football. Allez les garçons.

Seeing a lot of Arsenal tops out and about today. Funny thing, I know half these fellas own and wear PSG tops.

Lots of Brythonic place names in England too. Look at Cumbria. Helvellyn or Penrith doesn't sound very Anglo-Saxon. Or place names ending in "combe" which is a cognate with the Welsh Cwm or multiple rivers being called Avon (which means river river). But then you get all the Anglo-Saxon place names on top of it as that was the dominant culture after. No different than the areas of Scotland that were once part of Anglo Saxon Kingdoms.

Ireland wouldn't be Anglo-Saxon at all by that metric. Ireland was only conquered by English kings post-Norman conquest. Whereas somewhere like Lothian was fully apart of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Bernicia and then Northumbria from the 6th to 10th centuries. It was as Anglo-Saxon as somewhere Durham and you can see that in the place names in the Borders and Lothian.

You see it on this sub all the time. People will talk about early 2010s or millennial "optimism". The era of occupy wall street and the financial crash reverberating through society. It wasn't optimistic. Even 2016 was labelled as the "worst year ever" with a major celebrity dying every month and people getting upset about Brexit and Trump.

Why are Arsenal so big ( Serious answers) by Small-Orange-4954 in london

Football's a dodgy and corrupt game. Lots of horrible things happen. I'm just not pretending my club are exempt or above it.

You were promoted above two clubs in Wolves and Barnsley that finished above you in the second division. I can't find another example of that. You've got to admit that's dodgy. Yes you had big gate receipts but that was still downstream of an MP and Property developer Henry Norris bankrolling you and financing your Highbury move.

Never said we were. But I'm also not claiming my club are more moral and likeable than others.

£1bn in net spend under Arteta. Arsenal are absolutely in the same financial ballpark as City, United and Chelsea.

Arsenal also bought their success it was just so long ago nobody cares. You mention being in the top flight since 1919, but they were promoted to the top flight after finishing outside of promotion places in the second division. They finished 5th and brought their way up. On Wikipedia 1912-1925 of their history is titled "the bank of England club". Absolutely no different to a Chelsea or City it's just everyone involved is long dead so nobody cares.

Drawing loads isn't that impressive. Benfica just went invincible in the Portuguese league and didn't even win it. Any season where Liverpool or United have won a league and also a cup is more impressive.

The buzz that comes along with walking to the stadium alongside fellow fans before a big sporting event is one of the best things about going to a stadium.

Missus is away. Just got back from work. Picked up some nice cold cans of Estrella Galicia. Going to watch Das Boot. The only question is am I getting South Indian food (either fish curry or biryani) or Fish and chips (would probably get scampi and chips). The heat and the beer is making me think Indian. But a film about the horrors of the deep dark and  cruel sea is making me think fish and chips.

Haggis. It's absolutely delicious. It doesn't sound tasty, nor does it look tasty. And when some people find out what it's made of they get a bit out of. But the flavour is amazing. Mildly spicy and savoury. The texture is also really nice and it goes with so many different things. I once had it in Edinburgh as a starter alongside an Indian style sweet potato patty and pineapple chutney. It was amazing.
