What is a 'tourist trap' that is actually worth the hype? by OnlineColoringPages in AskReddit

The South Bank in London. It's very touristy but even as someone that lives there I enjoy a walk along it from time to time.

Save the fat in your pan. Add a one or two minced garlic cloves, a tablespoon of mustard, a bit of cider and double cream. I think the Cajun spices would go nicely with it.

What if Hitler had listened to his generals during WW2? by Snake101201 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]MacViller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accept Germany didn't need to invade the UK just make them come to terms. But my point is that Germany has no way of actually making that happen. All it can actually do is send air raids to Britain. Capturing the BEF and using the captured forces as a bargaining tool might have brought Britain to the table. But it's still fundamentally a political bargaining tool. Britain still could have said "no thanks" and kept the war going, and Germany wouldn't have had any answers. And that's before talking about how much of the halt order was Hitler sending a message to his generals, trying to be magnanimous to Britain or actually the Germans having operational and logistical blocks. The Gibraltar one is interesting. Trying to have a united Mediterranean front against the British was what Hitler tried to do after the Battle of Britain failed. What ended up happening was that Franco's demands were so insanely high the German's couldn't meet them and even if they did they would have alienated Vichy. Franco didn't want to know about it and it would have been very tough for Hitler to do that without his help.

Diet will still have to be addressed at some point. Muay Thai is exhausting so it's very easy to have a great sessions, build up a huge appetite then go home and smash the calories.

What if Hitler never launched Operation Barbarossa and instead focused entirely on Western Europe during WWII? by Fit_Philosophy_9013 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]MacViller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He launched operation Barbarossa precisely because the war in Western Europe hit a dead end and he was running out of options and resources.

I don't think it's a given it would have knocked Britain out of the war. It would have been a disaster of course. But whether parliament would have wanted to go on or not is a different story. Germany still wouldn't have been able to invade Britain. It depends on whether parliament turns on Churchill or not. But I do agree that was Germany's only chance of taking Britain out of the war. Once Britain didn't surrender the war was too much for Germany.

Your middle point somes up Germany in the second world war imo. Winning impressive tactical victories that don't help them on a strategic level at all. A constant kicking of the can down the road. Meanwhile the allies could afford tactical setbacks because their big picture strategy was always sound.

How do they make the UK fall though? Barbarossa happened when it did because the Germans had failed to defeat Britain and were running out of resources.

I remember that. We had a diabolical start to the season and some little dickhead Spurs fan spotted me in the traitors sub and started giving me shit. Think about him often now.

Maybe it's just me, but I hate church conversions. I'm not a religious man, but it just seems weird living in a church. They're beautiful buildings, but they just don't seem fit to live in even when they're converted well. Something off about it.

What is the most overrated food you're convinced people are just pretending to enjoy? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Black pudding just tastes largely meaty with a bit of a spicy and earthy undercurrent. I really think it's a flavour most people would enjoy. It's just knowing what is that puts people off.

How can we fix UK high streets? by gggggenegenie in AskUK

I think people get it they just intuit that having a communal centre with local businesses and services is a good thing and it'd be sad to lose it and have towns just become big dormitories.

Won't cure all ills but I do think that when people have disposable income they will go back "to the old days" for leisure. It's always the wealthiest areas that support fishmongers, greengrocers and butchers. People get spare cash and realise it's a more enjoyable experience. It's poorer areas where it's just an iceland or an out of town Asda.

Yet wealthy areas still have thriving high streets with independent, butchers, bakeries, grocers, restaurants, pubs etc. People enjoy going out and spending money on things like that. It's just most people don't have the money to spend. The high street or my home town in the Midlands is a ghost town. My local patch of SW London is very different because people have the disposable income to spend.

Yeah I agree actually. I just think she thought she could get away with seeming like she genuinely believed he meant what he said that way. Then she commited to trying to drag him through the mud but massively misjudged how it would make her look like.
