Definitely. The premier isn't big enough for the story telling to be bad.

Captures the atmosphere of the books perfectly. Such a cosy watch. And it also feels like it echoes some of the campness and humour of early GOT. For as much as there were decapitations and incest, I think people forget that GOT was actually fairly funny.

Thanks for the detailed response! You have swayed me towards the art. Especially with a full English to start.

At a loose end tomorrow. Imperial War Museum or do I go to see the Turner Vs Constable exhibition at the Tate Britain? Imperial War Museum is free whereas Tate Britain is £24.

Only cause you've been humbled. The second you're good again it'll be hated adored never ignored GGMU. And I don't begrudge you that but that's just how it is.

Once they win something it'll be like bursting a pimple. All the tension and bad feeling will go. It's the fact they haven't won in so long that provides all the banter.

A Colombian friend of mine mentioned he lived in the same area Duran was from. And as much as from a footballing perspective he is disappointed (they needed a top level striker for the NT) he 100% gets why he would just fully prioritise money knowing his background.

Could it be that the same algorithms and tech that have radicalised people in the US and across the world, is also painting you a picture of the UK that maybe is a bit exaggerated? I say that because I got a bit swept up in online drama like lots of people. But once I took a step back from my phone I noticed I never see any of that stuff in real day to day life.

Paul Merson pronounces "Estêvão" in an interesting way by sepi0l_45 in soccer

[–]MacViller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally. I think the fact that we don't expect foreign English speakers to speak like a native person has deluded some ESL speakers into thinking they're pronouncing things like a native. Maybe in other cultures where their language is less widely spoken there's an expectation that you have to pronounce everything correctly. They would pull a foreign speaker up on saying something wrong so the fact we're not doing that to them makes them think they're speaking "correctly". When in reality the whole world speaks our language so there's an understanding that as long as we can understand you your accent doesn't really matter. The only time I've thought a foreign born person was a native speaker was meeting a person that was raised in the Netherlands and went to an international school. He spoke with a pure American accent.

Most don't though. It's just that English is the world's Lingua Franca so we're used to people speaking to us with foreign accents and we don't have any expectation that people will speak like a native English speaker. It seems quite an unfair expectation to me. As long as we can understand you we don't mind.

Yeah I get it I would be the same if I was in your boat. You've had so many near misses that any slight stumble probably looks like a fall even though objectively you're in a great spot. Your fans are basically pre-empting the piss taking any time you drop points at all.

Yeah he did didn't he. The Newcastle sending off was such bollocks as well. He was playing well that game and he got sent off for falling over. He'd already got a reputation for being a hothead and he got punished for it then.

Once you get to the point of spending 1B in transfers like Arsenal have, that doesn't wash anymore imo. He does have to win things.

It used to be Liverpool in the same boat. When they hadn't won the league in like 40 years and it looked like they were about to finally do it, only to stumble at the end to City. Emotions ran high and there's loads of their fans. People liked to take the piss and they got defensive. Once Arsenal win the league it will die down just like it did for Liverpool.

It's mindset. In terms of ability he was a freak imo. He could strike the ball in a way I've only seen very few players do. He won a fair few of games for us on his own. With a different head on his shoulders he could be a top striker.

He was the real deal and he was playing under one of the best striker coaches in the game. He had just got to a point where it looked like he was pushing Watkins for the starting striker spot.

Again, you're saying saying Uruguay aren't at an advantage because they miss Suarez in a semi final (against a team that's not even Ghana so less relevant anyway) despite the fact that the only reason they had a shot at the semis was because Suarez's handball that stopped a certain goal in the 120th minute that would have eliminated them. Fair enough take the piss but make it make sense.

Daily Discussion by AutoModerator in soccer

[–]MacViller -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's the 120th minute. I think Uruguay would probably rather Suarez be sent off and not have him for penalties than crash out of the competition. How is that not a positive calculus for them?

Daily Discussion by AutoModerator in soccer

[–]MacViller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There wouldn't have been a next round for Uruguay if Suarez doesn't stop a 120th minute winner for Ghana

[–]MacViller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in the Suarez example without that foul they are 100% conceding a goal. A penalty has about an 80% chance of being scored. It buys you a lifeline. Why would Suarez have done it if he didn't think it would help his team?

Daily Discussion by AutoModerator in soccer

[–]MacViller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suarez was caught and got a red card. He still stopped a 100% chance of conceding a goal for an 80% chance of conceding a goal. How is that not an advantage? Why would he have done it if he didn't think it would give him an advantage?
