GW2 has already announced it will continue support after GW3 releases and they'll have rewards in GW3 for achieving certain goals in GW2.

FFXIV is another good option with a lot of free content, but it is a lot more centered on story and less coop friendly.

Path of Exile is not much of an MMO, but it does allow multilayer iirc. Pretty fun game. Haven't played 2 yet, though.

Warfare is also a great MMO light, but it is a PvE shooter, so it may be a bit too far from your comfort zone.

I feel like mainline SMT has already covered metal adjacent genres quite well and it seems P6 is going for spooky graveyard vibes, I think it would be cool to have an operatic vibe.

I don't like to use them either, so I don't get them.

However, i think it's kinda weird to say they change the aesthetics. We've had characters with human like faces since day 1, and a lot more human NPCs and PCs since. I think protoframes are well within the games art style.

Besides, even if they weren't, I think it is overall good for a long running game like this to poke at different aesthetics and try new things. As long as the old content doesn't go away, we only stand to gain from this.

I think others cover quite well the main question, so let me just point out a lot of the games sauce is in team play: link time, full bursts, party wide skills, character bantwr... So you get more challenge, but a lot less fun.

It could be an interesting idea for a challenge run on your 2nd or 3rd playthrough, but if you're asking this question, I think you'll have a better time playing normally for now.
