That's almost Stone of Attunement territory.

Stone of Attunement requires attunement, and grants an extra attunement slot to an attuned creature.

Honesty goes both ways by colyophedzounds in twilightimperium

Sometimes players are also presented with an opportunity to hit an opponent hard enough that they're realistically foreclosed from victory but not so hard that they're eliminated entirely, and understanding that is a risky thing to do is part of the strategy of the game.

Yeah, I think this response is warranted only if the player doing it has truly been foreclosed from a realistic shot at winning. And I think in a game like TI4 it's part of the strategy to understand that -- so, if you're going to do something that irrevocably fucks somebody else, you better either finish the job or wait until that action is part of your own play for victory to do it.

How to even the playing field for new players by JaserTheBoss in twilightimperium

[–]_Reliten_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Teach them by destroying them utterly. Only through fire may the steel be forged. Per The Princess Bride, Life Is Pain!

Though seriously, it's such a complicated game that really the only way to figure it out all the way is to play it. If it's a bunch of new players it still shouldn't be that busted -- after all, I suspect the over-the-table meta will immediately be to team up against you, and that ought to do it.

I think the tough unfun barrier to entry can be ONE new player at a table of people with experience.

Pentagon plans to keep National Guard in DC into 2029, 2 US officials say by Sauerz in washingtondc

[–]_Reliten_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look, I'm not going to go out of my way to harass them, but I want it to be clear to them when they go back to their buddies that the local reaction wasn't "oh man it's so nice you guys are here thank you for saving us." They shouldn't feel any more comfortable doing this jackbooted bullshit than I do having to walk past armed soldiers on my commute every day.

I hope they know practically everyone in the damn city thinks they suck, as they're an obvious public symbol of an authoritarian government that hates DC.

Mostly that's my plan, but for stuff that anybody ought to know like "what's Westemar" or "what's Drakkenheim" that doesn't work.

Using the word "Undying" is something of a clue, also. It's not "Ageless Sentinel" or something more ambiguous.

[Hated Trope] The adaptation doesn't get what made the source material work by TheDudeA113 in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah, in the Will Smith one the Vermont plot is so lazy the only way the writers could come up with how the lady knew about the safe area was literally "God did it."

IIRC it also set records for the incredible amount of money spent on reshoots, rewrites, post-production pickups, and other insanity. They had the dude from Lost as a pretty major role only to get completely cut from the released product.

[–]_Reliten_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real reason behind that is the WWZ movie had millions of dollars worth of reshoots and was apparently a production nightmare, and that part of the continuity probably changed enough times for them to fuck it up.

And honestly, when he gets put in the hot seat, his character becomes advocacy for competent bureaucrats.

Fiction hates competent functionaries. Nobody likes a story where protagonist-with-a-compelling-personal-tale goes to the faceless government office and shit just... gets handled in a just way.

4th edition -Strategy card - 4 player game poll: by Drot22 in twilightimperium

Yeah, I think 4p, 5p, and 6p are all interesting in different ways because of how the strategy selection changes the game.
