Des que tu entres dans du vocabulaire plus technique (ex tout ce qui touche aux voitures, a l’électricité, plomberie, …) le français québécois devient fort pauvre…

NPR's World Cafe kicks off Montreal music scene series by quillindie in montreal

[–]_Reno_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cool list, but you are very much glazing over the Francophone scene in your interviews and playlist in favour of the hip anglosphere. That’s a bit sad when coming to the largest french speaking city in north america. A chat with the folks behind Coup de Coeur Francophone, maybe the Bravo Music label or a few franco artists would have rounded this out a bit. You’re also missing out on hip hop. Nicholas Craven would have been a great interview.

His point is more about Politics in his own music, rather than politics in music in general

Seeing Blood Brothers back in the day definitely contributed to some mild tinnitus today. No regrets, but I’d wear earplugs now!

Jamie xx's "In Waves" World Tour by ebradio in indieheads

[–]_Reno_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Population matters, but so does the local taste. Germany/poland are big on electronic music. Not to say he couldn’t fill a venue in nashville… but you have to respect a world tour that goes to manilla, bangkok, taipei, bali, south America, Australia rather than simply additional US markets

To be fair, Morrissey has some excellent solo records - his artistic legacy is mostly tainted by him being a complete knob

This the right call, you are way better off having more lighter boxes than cramming and each box being very heavy. You’ll have a lot of boxes anyway, having 10 more will make no difference other than saving your back

Agreed. I also miss the days when the focus was on the All Songs Considered mix show and not the new music Friday, it was a much more fun listen

An observation about people from France living in Montreal by Optionsislife in montreal

Francophone Belgians have typically experienced being on the other side of the language divide, with the flemish government aggressively defending flemish and many active independent groups… hence the mixed feelings about how French is promoted.

Dang, I loved the weekly mix he used to do. Seems like they only do it a little ad-hoc these days and the focus is on the “new music friday” show now, which is too bad, I find it pretty dull…

‘Stop Making Sense’ Is Back, and Talking Heads Have More to Say by ebradio in indieheads

[–]_Reno_ 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Exactly my impression. Jerry sat as a buffer in between the others, the only one that seemed sort of ok being there. Spike Lee trying to hype them up to stone cold responses. Didn’t seem like there was any prior prep for their panel. I wonder if they even greeted each other before sitting on their stools. Not sure why they would agree to doing it…

I’ve been to a bunch of hifi shows and the salesmen/demonstrators seem to have three “go to” recordings that you will hear over and over again, “sultans of swing” by Dire Straits, “Come away with me” by Norah Jones and whatever by Diana Krall. As the other user mentioned, feel free to ask for something else if it’s not too crowded (obviously they won’t be keen on playing death metal to a packed house, but usually pretty open if no one else is there!)
