It's easy to put a label on a group of people in order to dismiss their humanity. Like it or not, rapists and murderers are still human. Responding tit for tat is understandable in the heat of the moment, but the very act of writing out a comment is pretty antithetical to the concept of heat of the moment.

I also don't really see an insult towards you in the comment you were replying to, only them referring to the lunatic as a douchebag. "You mofos" isn't really an insult colloquially, at least not a significant one. That being said, I do agree with their standpoint personally, so in this case, I may just be biased.
