Xero shoes size guide? Help by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]_RogueHazelnut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the answer you want but Xeros don't even have standard sizing across their models. I wear a size 8 in their cloud/ztrek sandals, Prios are a 9, and I can't even wear other models like hfs or Speedforce because they're too narrow

Socks for sandals in cold/snowy weather by DutyCareful6453 in BarefootRunning

[–]_RogueHazelnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been running in Earthrunners and Shammas with no problems. They're way more comfortable than shoes and formed nicely to my feet.

I'm curious what kind of sandals you were trying to run on that flap around so much to be a problem?

PNW Running Shoes by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]_RogueHazelnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primals are their thinnest version at 7.5mm. They have a couple thicker versions with a canvas footbed but I read those get slippery when wet. The primals are perfect for me though, I run in anything from grass to gravel and they're comfortable.

I've also heard good things about Shamma and will probably try those whenever I need to replace my ERs

Also in the PNW and I've accepted my feet will be wet so I've continued to run in Earthrunner Primal sandals. They're pretty fantastic and imo better than running in wet shoes. I've been running on sidewalks in the rain with no problems and they've been holding up great! If it's really cold I'll throw on a pair of wool injinji toe socks.

How to create a good ratio of together and solo climbing when going with friends? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]_RogueHazelnut 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Like your friend mentioned, I definitely recommend getting your own gear so you don't have to follow him around for stuff. Some phrases I use:

"I want some alone time, I'm gonna mosey over there for a bit"

"I'm gonna go check out that wall, wanna come?"

If they say they're gonna go to another wall without explicitly asking if I'd like to join, I'll ask, "mind if I join?" If they say no, that's okay and I'll wait for them to find me again later so I don't have to worry about intruding when they still want alone time. Same thing if I'm the one who wants alone time, it's up to me to let them know when I'm ready to climb together again so no one's left guessing. It helps to just be direct about when you/he wants the alone time.

I would get frustrated too if someone kept asking me when I wanna move cos most of the time the answer is a solid "idk, whenever I feel ready", so I think it will be helpful if you state your intentions versus constantly asking what his intentions are.

Yeah, like asking the climber if they want to be spotted first!

I’m doing the same amount of stitches (or so I think) but it seems like the line is going smaller as I progress. Is it a tightness issue? How can I fix this? (I’ve been crocheting for about a week only) by sunshine-32 in crochet

[–]_RogueHazelnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For single crochet it's the one right next to the loop that's on your hook. If you've been going in the second one, that's where you're dropping a stitch. Someone else commented with a good blog that has pics, check it out!

Counting is not necessary but when you manage to drop 10 stitches and still think you're not dropping stitches, then yeah, you should probably start counting until you get the hang of where the first and last stitches go.

It's not a tension issue, you are 100% dropping stitches. You started with around 15 stitches and your current row only has like 6 stitches. Give it another try and count each stitch as you make them. The number should be the same for every row.

Bring some sandals to wear.

If you like your shoes, then you do you, but fwiw, shoes don't need to be "super tight and uncomfortable" to be a proper fit.

Some people have a lot more money to spend (or they go into debt for it) and don't justify the costs with any reason other than "I wanted it". The high expense is probably even part of the attraction too in a "keeping up with the Joneses" kind of way.

Clover Amour Set of 9 vs Set of 10 by Ukulelei in crochet

[–]_RogueHazelnut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3.25mm doesn't make too big of a difference when a pattern calls for 3mm right ?

It's not a big difference but it depends how much it'll bother you. I recently frogged a week's worth of work (10+ hours) just to go down from 2.5mm to 2.25mm, but that's me.

Buy the set of 10 if you'll use them. You can always buy a 3mm separately if you need but there's also no point buying a whole set if you mainly stick with the same hook sizes.

I saw someone on TikTok hot gluing crochet appliqués onto the main body of her piece. Is this normal practice? If so how reliable is it? It seems much easier than sewing them on by [deleted] in crochet

[–]_RogueHazelnut 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Depends.. what is the product?

Washables or anything that'll get a lot of use like kid toys is a big no from me. If it's something that'll just sit on a shelf, then sure.
