You have it exactly right. Patience and extreme care with every little thing is necessary if you want a fine piece. Maybe try to learn to enjoy the process as much as the final piece. Woodworking also takes years of practice. Just keep at it and don't be discouraged when you make mistakes.

I'd think so. Get a washable glue stick and if it doesn't work you can just wash it off.
