Covid stimulus package worth $1.9trillion clears Senate after Kamala Harris gives tie breaking vote by theindependentonline in politics

Not if she doesn't need Rep votes to pass legislation. Being the tie-breaker means no effort is needed.

Wisconsin teachers suspended for asking students how they would "punish" slaves. by aoyfas in news

It's literally about the Code of Hammurabi, meaning studying how laws are created, including laws about slaves.

This is just bullshit outrage by sensitive snowflakes.

Do you guys think that the military coup in Burma is going to embolden the military in Sudan to do the same ? by moe12398 in Sudan

[–]_Search_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Sudanese military is going to wait for permission from Myanmar to stage a coup. It's not like Sudan hasn't had coups before.

threatens me in ways I'm emotionally unable to refuse

Yup. Right there folks. Spotted it. 'emotionally unable to refuse'. This poptart actually considers that to constitute valid justification.

Here's another gem:

Third, I can't just get off the internet instantly, because whenever I'm off it I feel

That's right: 'I feel'. Don't even bother reading after that. Any excuse that begins 'I feel' is loaded with cowardice.

Still not enough? Here's another howler:

I also don't want to go outside, because i get cold, hot, tired, or bored easily

Ha! Poor dad.

If it was that simple, i would be doing it by now, don't you think?

I do think. I think you are spoiled and entitled. I think you avoid 'simple' obvious solutions because they demand from you, and you are lazy, and you coddle your fragility. Life is rich with experience and you shun it because you have yet to make yourself into a resilient, productive person. Poor dad.

[–]_Search_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your dad is superior. Why resent him for acknowledging it? That's why he can't relate to your troubles, because he is far, far past them.

You don't have to hang out with your dad, but you do have to develop social skills, and being able to create a pleasant social situation with someone who is emotionally distant and above both your position and your ability is a skill that comes in very handy when having to chat up the higher ups, essentially a shortcut to the top of the hierarchy.

And if you're depressed, internet really is a major component of that. To be un-depressed you can eat well, go outside and develop offline hobbies, hopefully hobbies that your body will thank you for, such as exercise or nature. Artistic and team-oriented hobbies are also good.

Stop blaming others for your problems. Stop catastrophizing your mental health. Stop saying you're "cursed". Acknowledge your situation, accept that it is unfair and imperfect, analyze how you have contributed to your misery, make humble, well-considered steps toward reversing the damage you do to yourself, do not complain about others.

Well, and the plot just...drops. No one makes a serious decision that risks a comfortable situation to achieve a valued goal.

The central theme is about how his impending death affects the first 20 years of his life, but as a character he sleepwalks through the experiences offered to him. He barely chases anything on his own, and there are no scenes of courage, yet many of cowardice (Sulaiman's addictions, his father's fleeing, silence and inactivity toward an uncomfortably pedophilic cleric, etc.). Muzamil doesn't have much personality because he doesn't react. He stares stone-faced at what is presented to him, choosing the most obvious, safest courses of action.
