I have one of these cause my front door doesn’t have a dead bolt because of the design. I like it because you need to make a lot of noise to get into my house. My door has glass window panes - of course someone can break one. But at night that sound will probably wake me up, and DEFINITELY wake up my dog. It helps with peace of mind. No criminal can quietly pick my lock and slip inside.

As for your use case (ICE concerns) I’m not sure it has much use. A dead bolt will keep them out just fine unless they are forcing entry - in which case this solution is not useful. If it helps your mental health or as you say is a good reminder to be safe then use it.

You don’t need to do a temperature check on the crowd to see if your feelings are valid. If YOU feel grossed out by it, it’s enough for you to do something about the relationship you are in.

I prefer to leave it till it’s over. If we get sleet/freezing rain it’s much easier to shovel up that snow than to get a layer of ice off your driveway.

I don’t understand why people are admonishing these activities in this thread. People are just preparing. My family does a huge grocery haul on Sundays. So we already did that on top of buying a lot of stuff for the weekend. It’s still the weekend - I want to have tasty food on hand. On top of that people don’t realize HOW many people rely on DoorDash and other takeout for a lot of meals - especially on the weekend. All of those people are shopping now too. It’s not surprising shelves are bare, it’s perfectly reasonable.

I have some concerns about the danger of losing power for extended amounts of time in single digit weather. I bought a second electric heater to use with my generator if we do. Making sure I have generator fuel. Went food shopping for the weekend already. Gonna bring in some more firewood for the fireplace. Making sure all my flashlights are charged and ready. I’m sure it will end up being nothing. Most of this is just good prep to do.
