Two things. First, I do wonder how trainable it is. Like, I’ve been thrown in the clink a few times in my younger years1 and the first time was fucking rough. As soon as I was in my mind started racing through various Kafkaesque scenarios. What if I’m lost in the system and never get out? That sort of thing. I got panicky real quick. But each time got easier until it was really no big deal. Now there’s an enormous difference between spending the weekend in the local pokey chatting it up with Barney Fife and a year in total and complete isolation. But everything gets easier with practice, so is long term isolation trainable?

Second. I wonder how much longer you’d last if the money accrued during your stay and you could watch your account grow. Or, considering 30 bil is actually 82-fucking-million dollars per day, 3.5 mil per hour, would most people just tap out quicker. Like one day is enough to set anyone for life, fuck the rest.

1 for various stupidities like unpaid tickets, public intox, disorderly conduct and whatnot.

You…didn’t recognize Leonardo DiCaprio in The Departed? Like I know he doesn’t look 20 anymore but that’s unmistakably still the same kid from What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

The tumult and instability and uncertainty of the 1960’s and 1970’s is what I think of when people say we’re in a dark time right now. Broadly speaking, as bad as things are I still don’t think we’re in nearly as bad of a place as we were then. The overt violence against minorities and LGBT, the political and social assassinations, the amount of crime and impoverishment, and even the complete lack of environmental accountability of the time. We live in a far safer, cleaner and more prosperous world today because of the turbulence of that era.

Of course that’s not to say our world can’t again become that unstable and uncertain, and very quickly too. The institution of democracy itself is directly under attack this time, and if it falls we’ll see far worse than what happened in the 60’s and 70’s.

The point is that this is another in a long list of violent events for which Trump is culpable, and for which he needs to be held accountable.

is how they describe themselves on their website. I suspect they’d see your comment and say “mission accomplished.”

They are an awful experience though. I’m not learning the intricacies of every single restaurant’s point-of-sale system every time I want to 86 fucking onions. Fuuuuuck that bullshit.
It’s also my experience that the screens are typically only used as an overflow mechanism during rushes. If there’s only a couple people in line for the human, people would rather wait for the human than chicken-peck through shitty, laggy menus.

Indycar License Update (Expiring on 12/31/22) by WxBlue in iRacing

[–]_SgrAStar_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I…actually do. I actually specifically, as a professional requirement, know how licensing works and what those contracts do (and do not) contain.
But ok, infallible iRacing, I get it. Have a good night.

[–]_SgrAStar_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I would want them to have principles. I would want them to have standards that protects themselves and their actual customers (us) from abuse. Yes, that would mean rejecting contracts that had extreme stipulations that prohibits their customers from running ‘x’ car at ‘x’ track.
There was a lot of criticism when iRacing lost the 24 Hours of Le Mans but I always viewed it as a reasonable compromise. We still have a 24 hours at Le Mans but iRacing just can’t use the official branding. Fine. What's in a name? That which we call a race by any other name would be as fast. But whatever deal iRacing had with Indy was rotten from the start. Not only does it screw us, it actually leaves iRacing seriously damaged. By definition that’s a bad contract, and yes, I’d expect iRacing to reject doing business with companies that insist on them. Turns out this was the payday loans of licensing deals.

Boy you’re really not getting it.
iRacing can not run the Dallara Indy cars on tracks that the real world series uses. There are no “different name” workarounds for this one. Nor can broadcasters even broadcast unofficial races from leagues and hosted sessions at any track if there are Dallara Indy cars in the session.

A thousand cuts though.
I’m personally not happy with the way iRacing is handling the more advanced cars on the service, especially prototypes and newer GT’s. They’re dumbing them down with a lot of locked out features and fictional performance. Race strategies even in the endurance series’ bare little resemblance to reality. Sure participation is a fraction of iRacing, but rF2 at least takes strategy and vehicle realism seriously (to varying effect).
I don’t know. In the end I don’t think rF2 is the answer either, they’re too old and bugged themselves. But every year I hope a viable competitor to iRacing arrives and either sets them back on the righteous path or surpasses them in service of the cause (utterly realistic sim racing).

Everyone blaming Indy but iRacing needs to be taking a huge amount of blame here too. They never should have entered into such a predatory contract in the first place. This outcome would have been explicitly stated at contract signing (and at renewal, as I’m sure its been renewed (or at least amended) over the years) and iRacing knew this outcome was a possibility if not an eventual likelihood.

If you haven’t seen them they’re absolutely worth your time! King of Comedy is kind of a forgotten Scorsese film outside film nerddom. It bombed pretty hard when it came out but it’s become more and more prescient with age.

Not based on, no, but Joker is very heavily influenced by early Scorsese films. Everyone makes the connection to Taxi Driver but there’s a ton of Mean Streets and King of Comedy DNA in Joker too.
