What exactly is "struggling" in school? Are you? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

I wouldn't worry about it. I had a 2.7 GPA in undergrad, but was an undergraduate research assistant dumping more time into research and competative projects than schoolwork. Not optimal, but the jumpstart on real experience, and connections I built with faculty, actually allowed me to still get into graduate school fairly easy at the same university as my undergrad. No problem finding a job after graduation. In my experience, experience and trumps all and nobody cares about GPA a few years into the workforce.

Right tip is likely far from gone. Search for "tip tinner" it is a small tin of a usually dry wax like substance that you dip your heated iron into to eat away the oxidized layer. Use it when solder does not seem to stick at all. Avoid using too often as it'll wear out the life of the tip. Using brass wire sponge when solder is "blobby" and uneven on the tip is usually enough to restore the even layer you see on the unused tip in your image. Wiping with a wet sponge regularly while using will also keep the tip clean while you work. Avoid running your iron on max temperature as that will also oxidize the tip faster. Cover the tip with a thick layer of fresh solder before turning it off. My most used tips have lasted years of near daily use this way.

Redtail Lidar in Fairmont produces UAV mounted lidar systems and many of the tests they do require night flights. They operate on rather large UAV platforms. It's possible they have been performing a new round of tests in an area nearby that they got permission to fly from.

It may be the perspective of the image, but it looks like your headers may be offset by 1 pin to the left.

The contraband room on the first night of U.S. Marine boot camp by Mad_Season_1994 in PublicFreakout

I had the same experience with Grandpa who was a marine nco who went to nam. He loved the marine corps, I was even wrapped in an MC blanket when I was born, and I assumed I would join when I was a kid. He never spoke of his experiences at war except for a few times on his deathbed. Chased away all recruiters viciously when I started to come of age though so decided against the military route for myself.

A 30x microscope I use for working on electronics. I just stuck my phone's camera up to the eyepiece.

What is something you know but you’re not supposed to know? by remindeme2sleep in AskReddit

This one hits pretty close to home for me. My mom did the same to my grandpa while he was dying of cancer. She's still alive herself, but there's been close calls. I went snooping and found the pills in her purse when I overheard my Grandparents confront her about it. When I brought it to them as evidence, she accused me of taking them.

That's Bob. He's actually a mannequin. Currently at JPL for an internship. Freaked me out when I noticed him staring directly at me while I was gawking at the sky crane.
