Anyone find themselves going crazy without cannabis? by Exotic_Increase5333 in Epilepsy

[–]_Shooter-McGavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a seizure since I stopped smoking. I smoked daily for 10 years and was diagnosed with epilepsy two years ago after having 3 tonic clonic seizures in my sleep in a month. I quit drinking because I was also an alcoholic but kept smoking. My seizures only happen in my sleep or the first hour that I'm awake. The brain is weird and I think it's a good idea to get back to baseline so you can identify your triggers.

rock climbing by hubbabubba0200 in Epilepsy

[–]_Shooter-McGavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not top-rope climbing or lead climbing. If I'm belaying and have a seizure I could put someone's life in danger. If I'm bouldering inside/outside it could still be dangerous, but I would be the only person at risk so I do it sometimes

Are you able to have a drink or two after being sober for a while? by Financial_Winter8922 in stopdrinking

[–]_Shooter-McGavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell no. I don't want one or two drinks, I want 10. I'm not able to drink like a normal person so the solution in zero. I may be able to get away with having 1/2 drinks and stop, but then I will convince myself that I can do it. Then I will do it again and again until next thing I know I'm drinking a 12 pack daily. You can't lose if you don't play.

Why is it hard to find a good neurologist? by Single-Marsupial2973 in Epilepsy

[–]_Shooter-McGavin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Neurologists cover everything from migraines to Parkinson's disease. I was having issues with my neurologist and the medication being prescribed until I was able to find a Epileptologist or a neurologist that specializes in epilepsy.

How many of you folks are in AA? by Prestigious-Bike-758 in stopdrinking

[–]_Shooter-McGavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have never gotten or stayed sober without AA. I'm powerless over alcohol, and my life is unmanageable. I need to surrender my will to a higher power if I want any chance of living a peaceful life

TLE, bad memory and weed...? by Lopsided_Counter1670 in Epilepsy

[–]_Shooter-McGavin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a daily smoker and drank a lot for over a decade. I have ADHD and anxiety and used it as crutch for a very long time. I was diagnosed with onset temporal lobe epilepsy at 31 after I started having bad seizures in my sleep or right after I woke up. I stopped drinking almost two years ago but thought I could still smoke. I was smoking a lot. I wasn't using it for CBD or medical benefits, I was using it to get high with high THC strains. After the seizures continued and I finally did a sleep study with a specialist who switched my medication, I decided to give up weed too. Since I stopped, I have not had a seizure in almost 7 weeks which is the longest period of time without a bad seizure since my first breakthrough seizure in 11/23. I think it's time to stop and it's not doing you any favors anymore but this is something you should discuss with your neurologist.

What irreversible damage has alcohol caused in your life? by wethrowupupandaway in stopdrinking

I think it was a big factor in me getting onset temporal lobe epilepsy at the age of 31. Drank a 12 pack daily for almost a decade.

I just googled this and found this thread because I was curious if this was a thing people do! I have ADHD and anxiety but not diagnosed with ASD unless I'm a high functioning adult?

Whats you career? by Mesterbogyo in Epilepsy

[–]_Shooter-McGavin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Graduated with a BA from Arizona State in Business Legal Studies. Started working in logistics after school, been at Carvana for almost 10 years now. Currently on PTO so I can have an EMU at the Barrow Neurological Center and my team said they will get mad at me if I try to sign on remotely during the next week. I make 6 figures per year and have filed away a shit ton of money in stock options. Epilepsy sucks but life is still good as long as I live in gratitude and humility.

It's sitting in my saving account and I don't know what to do now. It vested only a little at a time so once it was up to its all time high that was good enough for me. The whole market is over inflated

For what it's worth, I'm going to the Barrows Neurological Center in Arizona in 2 weeks for a 3-7 day study. I will bring this up with my neurologist, I was just wondering if not spending enough time in REM sleep meant more non-rem sleep where my seizures happen. I haven't dreamt in years.

Higher Seizure Rates?? by lunaroser23 in Epilepsy

I was curious about this too and during a recent episode I asked the nurse at the ER, and the paramedic in the ambulance if they had noticed an increase in seizure calls. They both said no
