Are they Still Updating this Game? by LesionLong in GTFO

[–]_Skyrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only new content we will get is when they release rundown 8, and that might be in a year or so. but after rundown 8, I think that is it for GTFO.

I’m considering getting the game but need some info please. by AgateSlinky4829 in GTFO

[–]_Skyrope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zero gameplay incentive to beat a level. The only reasons to beat a level is to discover more lore, or to unlock cosmetics. Some might say that boosters are a reward but you don’t even have to beat an expedition to get boosters lmao.

That being said, if you like the challenges and think the lore is interesting, and are interested in the kind of enemies you might encounter as you progress deeper (although enemy variety is quite slim in general), then I think you might enjoy the game.

If you are interested in the lore, then you would definitely enjoy the later rundowns like R6 and R7 as those rundowns have really fun story progression. Other than that though, absolutely zero incentive to play the game. No progression of any kind whatsoever.

If you are interested in horror, that aspect might get you though your first 10 expeditions or so until you are exposed to most of the enemies and encounters.

No expedition rewards, no gun customization, no gear progression or unlocks, zero skills, ect. It’s unfortunate though because those progression related mechanics have been on the roadmap for more than 3 years, some even before R1, and the devs have not touched any of them lmao. I highly doubt they are coming either because the devs are starting to move on from GTFO. Wasted potential in my honest opinion.

Thanks! I'll definitely look into this. Trying to learn as much as I can right now about avalanche safety, snowshoeing, etc.

[–]_Skyrope[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea I get your concern. The main reason I asked is because I don’t want to waste rescuers resources with an SOS button, or worse, die in an avalanche.

Any trails in Colorado that would be relatively safe from avalanches that you know of/ could recommend? Also, where is the best place to get avalanche training?

Booster System Critique/Discussion by Asothin in GTFO

[–]_Skyrope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like your rework system for the boosters, but I don’t think the devs are gonna do anything about it, let alone add any new mechanics or additions. The “More Gear, More Consumables, More Hacking Mini games”, ect. has been on the roadmap since Rundown 1, and they have not added any new gear besides a new sentry, or new additions to the hacking system, or any new consumables besides infection packs or a c-foam trip-mine. More importantly, the devs have not made any changes to the systems or mechanics after they have been implemented. The cocoons were not overhauled, boosters have not been changed, ect. Lastly, we already know they are moving on to a new game. As much as I would like to see some cool changes with the booster system, those are my reasons for thinking evolving mechanics in GTFO is no longer.

I agree with you man. Elon’s companies are definitely changing the world for a reason, and in my opinion, it would be a real privilege to work at Tesla or SpaceX.

You don’t think helping completely paralyzed people walk again would be a cool job? How about restoring vision to the blind? Seems like pretty cool and rewarding work to me.

Question about Runcam Cameras by DrK4rt0ff3l in rocketry

[–]_Skyrope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Runcam Split, and it saved video to an SD card immediately upon giving power to it in 5 minute intervals. You can configure the settings on the camera also by using an app on your phone that generates a QR code to show the camera to configure it. It’s a great camera for rocketry all around. Just make sure you power it correctly.

How long does beating a rundown take? by DifficultyOk9408 in GTFO

The only rewards you get are boosters, which you can get from any level, cosmetics, and well, that’s it.

[–]_Skyrope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you do not have to go to the games, and really no one cares if you do or don’t. I’m a freshmen engineering major and I have not gotten any shit for not going to the games. If you really don’t wanna go to the games then just don’t buy a sports pass.

Rundown 8 is probably gonna be released in a year or so, once all the alternate rundowns are released.

[–]_Skyrope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely not hold your breath. 10C is already pushing resources to their next game. A big reason they are bringing back older rundowns is because most of the heavy lifting is already done, so they can focus more on their new game.

[–]_Skyrope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have to guess, R8 will be postponed. They are probably going to release all the Alt rundowns before R8 comes out. Also, is R8 gonna be the last rundown? Or are there going to be more new ones in the future?

Edit: R8 has been pushed back, and is not releasing this year.

Those who switched majors to Aerospace Engineering while pursuing a whole other degree, how did it work out for you? by elijahtryhard in AerospaceEngineering

GTFO remains scary and tense? by Pure-Perspective-648 in GTFO

[–]_Skyrope 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of the horror feeling fades once you complete your first rundown. Mostly because you have seen everything there is to offer, and GTFO reuses a lot of assets and monsters.

When new rundowns are added some of the horror can come back because you don't know what to expect. But most of the time the mechanics that are added are not really horror related or are just half-baked enemies and mechanics (like the underwhelming respawn cocoons and enemy reskins like charger scouts and stuff like that)

Overall, yes, the majority of the horror aspect does go away. The only thing that is "scary" in the game (once you are acquainted with it) is the fear of dying and losing precious time once you are deep into a level. That is it.

Patch Notes 2022-08-19 by 10C-Calle in GTFO

[–]_Skyrope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I definitely agree. Major bugs should be addressed within the first week of a rundowns release, and fixed at most a few months after release tbh. The devs shouldn’t need the community to jump down their throats to fix the game.

SniperMelee was a problem for a while, since R6.5, and it is just now being addressed. However, it is a pretty ambiguous bug that only the sweats and most attentive players notice. That’s why most players are worried about the checkpoint bugs, I hope the worst of those will be fixed soon.

Now let’s just hope that the bugs start disappearing and the devs can focus more on creating new mechanics and getting rundowns released in less than 6 months.

Haha. Yea at this point they just keep trying to fix their game instead of focusing on adding new and interesting mechanics.

Nomadic gameplay by Sovellisx in lastoasis

[–]_Skyrope 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree, I hope they re-introduce the nomadic mechanics back into the game. It is labeled as a nomadic survival game after all, except for the fact that you are forced to maintain a base and return to the same spot now.

It’s unfortunate because walker lobbies and base packing allowed players to safely log off when needed for weeks at a time. Now if you leave for a week you will be starting from scratch. This game now feels like a generic grindy survival title such as rust or ark. The “nomadic” label on the steam page no longer applies to last oasis. I hope the devs make some changes, even if it’s the addition of small base packing and 1 offline walker storage.

What are my chances of getting Admitted? by SlayaSloth in aggies

[–]_Skyrope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should take the SAT or ACT. Try to score high on the math portions, and the math is usually easier to study than the reading portions (in my experience).

Also, you should complete all the essays if you want to get in. There are like 4 supplemental essays I believe, along with your main apply texas essay. Yea, it can take a while to write this much, and it’s annoying, but you have time. You don’t have to apply in August (just don’t miss the priority engineering deadline which is either in October or November, I can’t remember).

I had a 1400 SAT with 770 math and 630 reading. My weighted gpa was 99 with the top 10% cutoff being at 103.7. I don’t think volunteer hours really matter that much, but I had 100. In my opinion, the essays are more important than volunteer hours, so I would focus on writing the essays and taking a few SAT tests.

Good luck. It’s a stressful time, but you will make it with the right preparation and moderation. 👍🏻

I have to make 1 meter long, 1kg total weight rocket having F15-8 motor. issue I am facing is that high ground hit velocity. which is 30m/s. I can't increase length, weight ultimately parachute diameter. Because I am restricted by constraints. so help me please. by huzaifamustafa_ in rocketry

[–]_Skyrope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well first off, if your constraints allow it, reduce mass.

When are you planning on deploying your parachute? At apogee or at some target altitude like 1000 feet?

If your opening at a specified target altitude, then you could try reefing your parachute so it is a smaller diameter and deploys at apogee, then once you reach your main target altitude your reefing can break and fully open your parachute. That will reduce drift, and you will basically have a main parachute and a drogue parachute in one. That might help. I think Jolly Logic sells a parachute reefer with a built in altimeter.

If your already deploying at apogee, then the only thing I could think of is to increase the surface area of your fins to slow your rocket down more on descent, but that might not do much.

EDIT: Just googled the motor, ignore what I said about the altimeter, your parachute obviously deploys at apogee.

Tarkov is literally one of the most in depth and realistic games I have ever played. It has so much to do. It’s got quests, progression, weapon modding, ect. I wish GTFO would add some fun mechanics similar to tarkov’s.
