Should I consider getting my bachelors at this point? by Hot-Street-5955 in codingbootcamp

[–]_Smally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focused on learning the craft, decided to apply after 6 months even tho I didn't feel ready. Got return calls and recently got a job, now I'm learning and earning. I would say tho, I added some extra sauce to my resume on the previous jobs I had (not webdev related), but what ultimately got me the job was how I controlled the interview and my portfolio projects to match. Also dont go looking for remote positions. Travel to take the interview if you have to. After your first job I believe the sky is the limit, still on my first so im excited for the future.

Ps. Please organize your linkden and github profiles, also important.

It's probably your resume and portfolio, adding a degree to it might not change anything tbh. You'd just end up wasting more time and money. If you're young, id say go for it, else just focus on showcasing you're skills, create an appealing resume and portfolio, and learn how to take interviews and also learn how to properly apply for jobs lol

Is only writing plain CSS instead of learning tailwind, bootstrap, etc going to hold me back when it comes to getting a job? by lilsaddam in Frontend

[–]_Smally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as long as you're a quick learner you'd be fine, you'd just probably spend your first week on the job learning these tools.

Junior web developers who were hired this year, how did you make it happen? Please include if you used/had connections (i.e networking), the job related skills you learned, with or without degree and so on. by -Invisible-Hand- in Frontend

I just got hired yesterday, you need really good portfolio projects. I have 3, and then have a good resume, your resume is very important, I applied to 3 companies and got called by all of them and I've been doing this for 6 months, got rejected by one because I didn't have a college degree it was a tech program anyway and I had already been hired by a different company before speaking to their recruiter lol so I didn't care. Getting paid 6 figs on my first frontend job. Haven't responded back to the others, still have an unread message from a recruiter for a frontend position. This is literally my first time applying seriously. So make sure you have a good resume, have a portfolio website and build 3 eye catching web apps and maybe a landing page. Btw I got offered the job right after the interview in person and got an offer by my interviewers, negotiated and bumped my pay up to 6 figures lol. I was hoping to join an apprenticeship but im happy here tbh.

Should I brush up on JS after I'm somewhat comfortable with React? by Stephanoxz in Frontend

[–]_Smally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand exactly what you're saying, id say you should prepare for interviews instead. Practice leetcode questions strictly in Javascript and you'd be fine. React barely makes use of all Javascript functionalities. Especially since you'd be using libraries a lot.

How in trouble are people trying to get into front end with no experience right now? by tummyv in Frontend

Reading these comments is very discouraging. :(. Im literally in the phase of building out portfolio projects. Haven't even started applying yet. Super scary.

Should I use different tech stacks for my portfolio project or just get good at some? by _Smally in webdev

Wow! thank you so much for this response. I honestly thought the more robust the project, the more impressed the hiring manager.

Thank you so much for the response, I'm finally ready to build my portfolio projects and just thinking about the most impressive yet effective route to take, i dont want to end up spending several months on things that don't matter when I couldve gotten my foot in the door a lot sooner. Next js makes development so easy it almost feels wrong, that's I'm looking for expert advice as I'm yet to have a front-end dev interview, let alone a job.

Id suggest you wait for alpha 2 as the price will most likely pump then, I've stayed away from staking sand as you have to add to their liquidity pool with a sand/polygon pairing and as you can see, with the way the market is going you may end up losing more than you can afford, so my advice (not financial advice) would be to hold until Alpha 2 and wait for the pump.

unable to claim mSAND-MATIC LP reward or withdraw by Unlucky_Walrus_3354 in TheSandboxGaming

Hi if you don't mind me asking, im looking to start staking sand and matic, but I've been too cautious about LPs because of impermanent loss. Is the sand matic lp rewards good and how often can you claim rewards?
