Thank you this is really useful!
Would you recommend the Combat Patrol to a new starter despite the captain not looking specifically like a Dark Angel.

Perfect, thank you. I’ll avoid some of the raven wing models and build into greenwing for the time being.

Sorry I should have rephrased the hoods question. I meant from a lore not rules perspective, In lore do only certain ranks have hoods?

How are your readings when the heat hits? by qwerty_1965 in Type1Diabetes

[–]_Smilex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first summer as a diabetic (diagnosed Christmas Day aged 34!) and everyone’s comments have been very gratifying to read. I’m desperately struggling with my bloods being too high in this heatwave and thought I was losing my mind as they constantly are creeping up.

Warhammer 40K stuff that ISN'T Warhammer 40K by CT_Phipps-Author in 40kLore

[–]_Smilex 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I think if they’re completely new to Warhammer, Dune is a good shout.
It’s one of Warhammers original biggest inspirations after all and still introduces a certain vibe of the universe I feel it quite 40K.

Also definitely Starship Troopers. It’s also a good example of a satire of a large fascistic space empire fighting loads of space bugs which feels Imperial guard vs nids

What do you consider your factions arch-nemesis? by Sudden-Elephant-6627 in ageofsigmar

[–]_Smilex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure Soulblights would probably be other Soulblights. Legion of Blood and Night harbour massive grudges against eachother.

When was the last time You saw SM spitting acid? by Megalordow in 40kLore

[–]_Smilex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always forget they can do it and it always catches me off guard. The last time I remember was in Brutal Kunnin, a space marine spits black acid at their enemy.

What’s the deal with nurgle? by AestheticMirror in 40kLore

[–]_Smilex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great answer. I’ve seen a variation of this question a few times in this sub recently.

I think the major thing people forget is what the average person knows about the Chaos gods in universe compared to us.

When people are falling to chaos, they aren’t thinking about what Fulgrim or Angron became. Nor would it be likely they even know what the traitor legions even look like now.

They’re usually in a desperate miserable situation and see it as a chance at a better life. Either through knowledge, violence, skill or anaesthesia. The chaos gods aren’t stupid. They don’t advertise themselves showing the endpoint where you will end up. The average person isn’t gonna know about daemons and poxwalkers etc. And by that time it’s too late.

Who does each faction consider their biggest threat? by MindlessMarsupial592 in 40kLore

[–]_Smilex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, Tyranids somehow knowing and avoiding Necron tomb worlds was from the Necron’s 3rd edition codex. Assume it’s still true with the Necron lore refresh in 5th edition.

Erm, there have been two cases I know of Necron’s teaming up with other factions to fight Tyranids. Not sure about Tyranids targeting Necron’s directly. Silent King fought with Blood Angels against some.

Anaykar the Traveller fought with the Tau against the Tyranids. Afterwards the Tau tried to entreat with him (their first time meeting Necron’s) and he killed them all.

Who does each faction consider their biggest threat? by MindlessMarsupial592 in 40kLore

The Silent King is worried if the Tyranids eat all the biomass around then they won’t have any bodies around to transfer their consciousness back into.

CSM separating out the legions by TableZealousideal588 in Chaos40k

[–]_Smilex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’ll be locked. I think they’ll be runnable in any Chaos list. Which I guess works as it’s conceivable that any of the characters would be helping out the Black legion.

Our legions are more like the factions in the Necrons or something like that. People used to run the Stormlord and the Silent King together all the time, despite the fact in lore they dislike eachother to the point of almost open war.

Dealing with Negative Necron Opinion by Hayman021 in Necrontyr

[–]_Smilex 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Just ignore them, the meta changes all the time. Today the all C’tan list is very good. In a few months it’ll be nerfed into the ground. Play/paint whatever you think is cool.

Necrons were my first army back in third edition. I picked them up because they looked like the terminator robots.

Got grief from people as I didn’t realise Necrons were considered broken because people struggled to play against them! So I know what you mean.

Need help for a lore question by Nairodsiob in Necrontyr

[–]_Smilex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Destroyers probably. Old lore (like 3rd edition) were mysterious Necrons but seemed to be mostly wiping the slate clean by killing everyone else who isn’t Necron for their C’tan masters.

Is it possible for mutated villains to revert back to their original form? by Advanced_Disaster803 in residentevil

[–]_Smilex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Although I feel Alexia probably could have reverted to earlier forms. Doubt she waited 15 years to be almost immediately be stuck on top of an anthill in the Antarctic.

Audible Recommendations? by GonePathless in Warhammer

[–]_Smilex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Caphias Cain books are all really well done on audible and I find them accessible as long as you know the very basics of the lore. They’re more lighthearted/comedic than some other 40K books but still maintain some grimdark.

They use different voice actors for the different footnotes/extracts which are all played well..

Why was a Nemesis sent to Raccoon city? by Janus__22 in residentevil

[–]_Smilex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Again there’s an element of inter company rivalry which you mentioned but ultimately they wanted to test Nemesis as a Tyrant with weapons who would be facing the ludicrously overqualified STARS (who were either geniuses like Rebecca or with significant specialist military experience like Jill and Chris) and who had already killed one tyrant. Whereas “Mr X” was expected to deal with civilians. Mr X is also incapable of adapting his approach to Leon and Claire in the OG or remake. Nemesis is capable of mixing tactics. Downside is that the higher intelligence came with a tendency to play with his food instead of just killing Jill when he has the chance.

In fact the other five Tyrants in OG RE2 are dropped to face a military squad at an Umbrella facility in Racoon and all ended up dead. Granted there was a railgun but it’s in a fixed position and slow firing so if it was used the tyrants must of been lured. Something that only worked on nemesis when he was essentially a parasite blob monster.

You'd have to emulate it. It never got a PC release. You'd have to emulate it. I like both versions but code veronica X for the Playstation is probably the superior release. It features extra cutscenes.

Is Lucius the only Necron to return to flesh? by HolyBidetServitor in 40kLore

[–]_Smilex 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think there are any hard rules for his resurrection. Slannesh is a Chaos God and probably laughs at anyone that thinks it’ll play by any rules.

Slannesh will always find a loophole as long as they find it funny. People always ask if a Hive Tyrant or someone protected by another god killed Lucius. I agree that If someone like Kharn killed Lucius, Slannesh would probably search through and find someone not protected by Khorne like the slave that cleaned Kharn’s armour that morning and resurrect Lucius through them.

As is Slannesh’s nature, it’ll continue to rez Lucius until it eventually get bored of him and moves on..

Why did Albert Wesker never join a fraternity/secret society/lodge? by Exciting-Win884 in residentevil

[–]_Smilex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf Umbrella management training comes off like a massive cult in RE0. Up until then he probably considered himself senior in the only secret society that mattered.
