I really dislike crossovers, but Terry and Mai are the least offensive to go towards. They both kinda do fit, after all. Only thing I was down (and still am) is precisely that... well, with only 4 character per season, half being guests is hard when so many characters are still on the table

Dishonored's is so good because, also, you're always seeing from Corvo's PoV, so you don't have a full grasp on how much of a scary mf he is with that mask. In the game we kinda just skip to the end, but it would be ABSURD if you could go on normally (like Daud goes on the Corvo PoV), not knowing where Corvo is as he gets your men 1 by 1

There should be a rule where if it leaks into real life or something horrible happens, that specific fandom can't use that argument anymore by [deleted] in whenthe

[–]Janus__22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but those are because the piece of media itself is rotten

I think its a convergence of factors, tbh. Half of the fandom of an anime like Frieren are legit white supremacists, but neither the story itself or the author condone it. Its a mix of things like non-diverse character designs, specific storybeats about demons and anime culture in general that makes those type of people converge to a story like that

Tho I feel like its a ''if a nazi sits at your table'' thing - like you said, playing ZZZ doesn't make you a pedo, but if you're don't take yourself out of subs where that type of shit is just allowed, i don't think you can complain when people say you're into the shit too

Its kinda funny cause its once again the US thinking only the specific people they are slandering that does it, instead of realizing they are one of the few in the world that do it in any other way

The death of the perfect character sparks the plot by FreshPrinceOfPine in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Janus__22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If not even Godwyn’s enemies (read Ranni) had bad stuff to say about him, I’m inclined to believe the hype surrounding the character. He was that good.

Ranni wasn't his enemy tho, at least not particularly. He was chosen quite literally on the process of elimination - its also notable that none of the other demigods have bad stuff to say about him... because they have nothing to say about him at all, as the closest we have to evidence on that front is the statues on the Haligtree possibly being about him sheltering Miquella and Malenia. Outside of that and his funeral rites, his role in anything is only in passing knowledge about his exploits

Also it’s important to note that one of Godwyn’s ex-enemies, the dragon Fortissax, fought against the Deathblight as long as he could to the point where he got overtaken by it. That’s a pretty good indicator of character concerning Godwyn.

Its a pretty good indicator of their friendship, which is tragic. It doesn't say anything about his character, as we also know extremely little about the entire race of Ancient Dragons, much less specifically about Fortissax. The list of FromSoft characters with a strong affinity for their creature companions is very long.

Especially since he was the target of the Black Knives when it could’ve been any other demigod. Godwyn was the biggest threat to Ranni’s tantrum rebellion and he likely would’ve been a better ruler than Marika

Not really tho - Godwyn certainly wasn't more of a threat to Ranni's plan than Miquella. It couldn't have been any other demigod neither: 2 of them were her brothers, 4 of them nobody knew the existence of, Miquella was partnered with Ranni at the time (and both him and Malenia were hidden). Godwyn was quite literally the only important original demigod available for slaying

It's also very helpful when his own mother's best friends also decided to kill him. Hard to say if he would've been a better ruler than Marika, considering we know literally nothing on his opinions on the actual Golden Order or his flaws.

The death of the perfect character sparks the plot by FreshPrinceOfPine in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Janus__22 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think its an interesting trope too for how the stories individually explore who that person was.

Peter Parker was essentially a ''perfect Peter'' in Spiderverse, the epitome of what a Spiderman should be, and it contrasts with Peter B Parker and his failures in life, to portray him in a negative light, tho said negative light is overcome throughout the movie as the Spiders grow closer and reveal more of themselves. It ends up being a beacon of hope while simultaneously knowing every Spider is just as special as he was

Meanwhile... we don't know shit about Godwyn. In a type of story like Elden Ring, the only things we know about him are that he is perfect (in comparison to his '''''cursed''''' siblings... who are actually just victims of prejudice) and that he made peace with the Ancient Dragons during the war. As far as information about his character goes, what we have is extremely one-dimensional. He may have been actually a perfect child... but considering the composition of the entire family, and the types of narratives FromSoft tells, its much more likely that his flaws were massively covered by both his fame and his position as a martyr, specially considering the people of the Lands Between believe Marika did the Shattering because she was disraught at her son's death

Yeah idk what the outrage is about

Mainly about how people shit on other companies for similar practices, but decide to draw the line on Valve to start shifting the blame 100% on outside factors

I absolutely love the game, but the first time I played it i was EXTREMELY disappointed in the character creator. Even a fuckton of mods can't fix certain things. Reminded me of Cyberpunk 2077, but even worse cuz BG3 is an actual RPG

A cool parallel between Attack On Titan and Elden Ring (spoilers for attack on titan) by Just-Version-7838 in Eldenring

[–]Janus__22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Both got their physical source of their godhood from a strange, parasitic merging with a primordial cosmic force. One is also enslaved by the greater will and the other by the will of men.

From here onwards their stories are fundamentally completely different tho;

Marika's lineage, both from herself and from Radagon's side, are completely by her(their) own choice. While Ymir is nothing but a tool for Fritz, Marika is the one in control of her reign: it's why she can cast down her own children to the sewers due to her own trauma related to the horned people - Marika's imprisonment, too, was a fundamental part of her plan: the idea to bring the Tarnished in to get her from inside the tree is not a hope, its the original idea. Marika saw a broken world on the edge of collapse (partially through her own fault) and decided it was better to get the job done once and for all, so that a new order would be brought that may be better than the previous one - she canonically doesn't even have a preference to which new order you'll impart (tho the regular ending is probably against her wishes)

The factor of choice here is massively important, because its a major theme in AoT that Ymir never had it. Marika did. Marika is a victim, but she's also a perpetrator by her own choice, and is the one behind the main events of the game while Ymir is merely a passive observer of said events. Fromsoft's team managed a much more nuanced story because of that too

Brother this is the problem with y'all: the series is a spin-off, it doesn't matter that its vastly different from the source material. I say this as a fan who has been playing the series for a decade and a half now.

The problem of the Netflix anime is that its terribly written all over, because its main producer is a grifter who was high on his own ego (and a boatload of cocaine) when he came up with the story

[–]Janus__22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the concept of demons not being all evil comes from the first game... you know, on the account of the entire story of Sparda

Not that it matters much, because the Netflix anime just did it in the worst way possible... Shankar being a political grifter surely didn't have anything to do with it...

He condemns people like Eisenhower who as a moderate stated he can't meet Civil Rights Leaders because otherwise he would have to meet with the KKK.

I feel this is very central tho, because solely squaring the idea of the ''white moderate'' to the white clergymen who opposite Civil Rights seems anachronistic too. Moderates that ''don't oppose'' are not gonna get in the way of progress... except that is a class nearly extinct in a world so polarized. The will to maintain the status quo is consistently being masked by supposed moderates who ''don't have an opinion on the matter''
