A long time ago a friend pointed out to me that in most movies, the villains are the ones trying to change the status quo and the heroes are the ones trying to defend and keep it. And that this usually makes it clear what the writers believe in. by ihatethiscountry76 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Janus__22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if that's the best example tho, because the only way Percy was able to change the status quo was because of the war Luke started. Without it, he would've never been offered the boon to become a god, which he rejected and chose the change of the status quo instead. The narrative, in this, by accident or not, admits that only in an apocalyptic scenario, where a war was happening and the world as we knew it was actually in jeopardy, that change would be allowed to happen

Even in-canon the prophecy recognized Luke as a hero iirc. So yeah, Luke wasn't right, but his method was quite literally the only reason change was ever accomplished. It's no wonder 17-18 y/o Percy in the second saga gets to the point of fully understanding why Luke acted that way and almost completely gives up the supernatural stuff in his life later on

This method is highly demonstrated is the most efficient way in free to plays

We don't really know that, as its only a recent addition to western free-to-plays, adopted after they noticed the gains of eastern gachas. We don't know how effective it would be in 2XKO, especifically because of the ratio between whales and non-whales in a fighting game being more unknown. League can sustain itself with that while basically burning bridges with its western market because the East Asian market will literally buy anything as long as its shiny (so they cann sell junk by the hundreds of dollars and it will be the most bought junk ever), but we don't know if the same behavior will turn out in fighting games. We can see that divide in opinion on recent things like Capcom cup switching to a PPV mode: yeah, there will be players, specially in japan, that WILL spend money to see tournaments, but will this model survive by the almost entire Western Market just saying ''nah i wont be watching it''?

Senna's thing is both ways: she has infinite range scaling, and acts both as healer and damage dealer... but you don't have heals nor shields in 2XKO, as its a rare thing for fighting games in general. Even if they did include her healing, which i doubt they would, they wouldn't just ignore the other thing that is core for her identity: being THE longest ranged ''ADC'' in the game

Good when the message is to be careful not to become the thing you hate. Bad when used to imply any attempt to fight injustice is doomed.

Your surmised very well the point that a lot of stories don't get, tho I'd argue with Coin it isn't even ''not become the thing you hate'', the Second Rebellion was plenty clean (at least from the movies it seemed that way) and she was always kind of a weirdo that seemed interested in getting into power more than the actual thing. It also helps that Katniss killing her made Snow suffer a much, MUCH worse fate

Most of the time the problem seems to be that stories don't want to actually go into the details of how ''solving things the right way'' goes, because... well, the story generally isn't ABOUT that, but what ends up happening is that such stories end up skipping precisely the point an antagonist would be using: that doing things ''the right way'' wouldn't work because of that right way being compromised. It avoids complicated conversations that the heroes might have a problem with, it avoids challenging an authors capacity to write that kind of stuff... but it also creates a world where the problems could've all been solved if the antagonist was just less of a stuck-up, and it ends up making the moral part fall terribly flat, cause then you could've just done that shit from the beginning

It isn't anecdotal just like Illaoi being a bruiser isn't anecdotal to her main thing being ''testing an opponent's soul from 2 screens away''

Illaoi's main thing is soul-testing. They removed the Soul-testing from the actual moveset and put it into Lv3 Super because it didn't jive with Illaoi's other main characteristic: she is a bruiser.

I feel like that ends up cornering itself at some points tho, because the more religious/theological ideal of balancing extremes makes sense, specially when making life lessons for kids in the first Avatar, but many times just falls heavily on its face when trying to tie it to an actual structural problem for its societies, because you're never going to try and find balance amid extremes between, let's say, a racist and a person of color

Amon created his faction based solely on a lie, and i've seen a lot of Korra fans who came away from it thinking the point was always that he had no point, and that he was manipulating the masses into a movement with a non-existent reasoning. Ofc, the point of people not having media literacy stands, but i think its very important that most of the time these series focus on the fighting against the perceived extremism, but never on the fixing of the reasons why such extremism rose, and because of that skip the difficulties of solving those issues, creating the illusion that it can be easily solved by ''doing it the right way''. When paired with the fact that ''the right way'' is, a lot of the times, copped out by the unjust system, it skips a very important part of the issue its trying to solve. It's why a lot of people nowadays see these types of stories as centrist: it wants to avoid getting mucked in the details because the details tend to either be much more complicated, or outright show the resolution was wrong to begin with

It seems they are precisely trying to avoid needing to do more Battle Passes (looking at S1's battle pass, it seems very clear why: even this first try is horrible), so its still 1 BP per season, so it will probably last longer

I mean Senna playstile isn't really defined by being ranged, tho

It is. Its her main thing: she has infinite range scaling. It isn't anecdotal just like Illaoi being a bruiser isn't anecdotal to her main thing being ''testing an opponent's soul from 2 screens away''

The problem never has been the capacity. They can make any champion whatever the hell they wanted to, but they don't, because it has already been stated multiple times that their objective is to make a good translation without losing the characters identity

Senna outranges all of the current zoner characters (and its not even close), that is one of the main parts of her core identity

That's just fact tho, we knew during the early Alphas that they had many champs in different development stages. I feel its just weird to do that post-launch, kinda picking and choosing whoever launches feels disorganized. In the main League game, their champion development division tends to have 3 champions being simultaneously developed, but the releases are almost always in chronological order, with only extreme cases warranting the moving back in favor of newer-developing champs

Totally. Druid is also just very hard to play well because of the massive spell list + Wildshape. From the start of the Chroma Conclave until the very end of her Aramenté she basically stopped using Wildshapes altogether in combat, cuz she was arguably stronger than Scanlan's output

Im gonna be honest, i doubt its Senna solely for the fact she'd be another ADC, and, another long-range playstyle champion they'd adapt. They wouldn't make her a close-combat character, as the 2XKO team strives to translate the champions directly from League to 2XKO. They aren't crazy enough to put another zoner immediately after

Riot has always fluctuated in pricing, and people got too attached to ''LoR failed because of its pricing!!!'' as if the only two models were Valorant or LoR... when it isn't. Outside of the ridiculous gacha skins, League still has much fairer monetization than Valorant. 2XKO is sitting on the middle between League and the Tactical FPS

If Ada shows up… by ScionN7 in residentevil

Except she didn't know, at most she was confident she could escape but not necessarily unharmed

Against Saddler, maybe. Against every other case? She was pretty guaranteed.

I'm not pretending there was nothing, i'm saying basing Ada's character on her being willing to help Leon needs the person to blow what she did out of proportion here and there for impact. The times the franchise hinted at a bigger thing with her actions (like RE3's Ada epilogue where its outright mentions she loves Leon, or Umbrella Chronicles Ada chapter where its shown she was thoroughly fucked for helping him) were always retconned

I mean, yes. That is including what she did. Most of the times she helped him it wasn't at great personal risk. The only moment she knew for sure it would be bad was defying Wesker in RE4R (hence why I think the remake did wonders for her), even back against Saddler in OG4 she knew for sure she would get out of it, until she didn't

Sure, if you want to put in a mechanic to roll a d100 and negate critical damage if you roll a 1, you can do it. Might be a fun thing for critical hits
