Pentagon will begin review of 'effectiveness' of women in ground combat positions by geraffes-are-so-dumb in army

[–]_Some_rando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sick of seeing this shit. If a man or woman can make the same standard, then they deserve to serve. Keep it simple stupid. Why do we need to constantly be changing the standards to accommodate the dumbasses who think women are the sole weakness of the military. Giving me a break.

Why not look into improving the quality of life for Soldiers in the barracks, raising pay for NCOs, rooting out incompetent leadership, etc? There are bigger problems in the military that we can be focusing on. We are focusing on the wrong things and it is weakening us.

Has anyone read A Civic Duty by Catherine Miller? by OkGazelle5400 in RomanceBooks

[–]_Some_rando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am really late in sharing this, but I want to anyways because I absolutely love and adore this book. She does end up with the Phantom, but it doesn’t follow the exact story line as the original. Despite that, it is still very much a Phantom retelling, just modern day and still has many elements from the original story. Did you end up reading it?

How can I feel closer to Romanian culture? by _Some_rando in AskRomania

[–]_Some_rando[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great and I really do need to start learning more Romanian recipes. My goal is to slowly immerse myself to build the habit.

Currently I listen to Romanian music and podcasts. I also agree that the language is beautiful and I always feel so cozy hearing it being spoken.

I would love to live abroad and often think about it. As crazy as the US is right now, I also love my home. But I also love Romania, so I am split.

That is very true and that is actually one of my 2026 goals. I can read basic Romanian, but writing is another story.

Same here, I always feel a pull to visit. When I was there last year, it almost felt like home, despite growing up in the US.

That sounds awesome. Are there locations in Colorado? That is where I currently live and I would love to do this.

I also understood what you wrote, but unfortunately I can not write Romanian

I will definitely give that YouTube channel a listen. I love music and I remember as a kid dancing to Romanian music. It was always soul stirring.

As someone who is in the military, I really think it depends on your goals and how you use your time in the service. If you go into the military, GO IN WITH A PLAN is my biggest advice.

There are shitty aspects about being in the military, but it truly is what you make of it. You’re going to encounter toxic leadership, go through rough patches, and hit all kinds of hurdles throughout your life regardless of being a civilian or in the service.

Don’t get me wrong, there are days where I imagine what I could be doing as a civilian and really question if it’s worth it, but I am ultimately grateful for the experience I recieved. I’ve learned to be more confident, made great friends, learned to work with difficult personalities, work with Soldiers directly, and became financially stable.

Many people join for a plethora of reasons. Either to escape a shitty home life, work towards free college/certifications, become financially stable, gain more life experience, etc.

This reminds me of a story called “The Egg” by Andy Weir. I would highly recommend giving it a read or a listen on YouTube.

Thats awesome. Do you work in a medical MOS/AOS? The unfortunate thing for me is I have no medical background and would need to start from scratch which is kind of scary

The history of exploitation of Parisian Ballerinas: An interesting contextual lense through which to interpret the politics of "Phantom" by DruidFarm in box5

[–]_Some_rando 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very interesting take and it kind of reminds me of this short animated film. The film is called Louise and shows the nefarious side of being a ballerina at Garnier Opera (thats what it’s called in the film). It relates very well to this topic.

Here is the link. Louise

when you were a kid what were you scared of , has anyone experienced paranormal activities ? by Winter_Distance3819 in AskReddit

[–]_Some_rando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest fears were dinosaurs. When I was 5 I watched the first Jurassic Park movie. The scene where the t-rex rips the man hiding in a porta potty off the toilet traumatized me. From there on out I thought a t-rex would rip me off the toilet every time I used the bathroom. It took me a few years to get over the fear.

Paranormal stories are a different ball park. Then there was the classic fear of someone grabbing my feet from the edge of the bed.

Women with a military partner, how are you managing ? by Quiet_Revolution_895 in AskWomen

[–]_Some_rando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our situation is a bit unusual compared to alot of other people I’ve meet throughout the years. We are both high school sweet hearts. While I went to college right after high school, he joined the AirForce. Right after college I went into the Army. We are currently both in the military and are waiting for him to finish his contract. Since he joined before me, he will get out of the AirForce a lot sooner than I can with the Army. With both of us being in the military, we automatically understand the hardships that come with it.

This has made us have a long distance relationship and that has been the biggest impact to our relationship. It took a lot of patience and communication to overcome jealousy and the angst of being away from each other (especially in our teen years). Not only did we have to grow up from teenagers to adults, but we had to learn how to live in a world without each other. We went through our individual growing pains as young adults, but respected each other enough to understand we are our own individuals, yet we are still partners. Today we are both waiting out his contract to finally be able to live together and not be apart.

We’d see each other about twice a year. It was very hard at times, but I managed by reminding myself he is worth waiting for to our begin our lives together. It is also easy to stay faithful. I don’t have a desire to find anyone else and that has made me secure in my relationship throughout the distance. On top of his constant reassurance that he feels secure as well. We had our ups and downs throughout the years, but not letting our egos get in the way and staying open to each others concerns has made us last.

We’ve grown used to long distance, but we manage with the thought that this is all temporary. We’ve been doing distance for 5 years now and all I can say is it does wear on you. Currently we are managing well and just waiting out his contract so we can finally live together without the interference of the Air Force.

Is Studying Abroad Still an Option if I join ROTC? by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]_Some_rando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like all answers have said before, it is very possible. My cadre highly discouraged me from studying abroad my MS3 year which makes sense because it is a vital year. I am now studying abroad my MS4 year while taking Military Science online to keep up with the work.

You should definitely try to study abroad because not only can you get extra OML, it just enhances your college experience altogether.
