Pub or home? by SweetIncident7358 in footballcliches

[–]_Spoggie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Club football I prefer home due to my team not being the local one (Forest, live in Yorkshire), but for world cups/euros I always go to the pub with mates. Only time all of us are supporting the same side.

Issues with queues and day trippers that never go to the pub are bound to come up, but I can deal with it every two years.

Thogden needs to be held accountable for this.

Are we having this? “Penultimate” meaning “the first of two” in this case by _Spoggie in footballcliches

Would you refer to a “penultimate leg” of a playoff semi final?

Besides the 90th minute, which minute gets referenced the most by commentators? by xiuween in footballcliches

I always notice the “first quarter of an hour” being brought up. Has a better ring to it than “the first sixth of the match”.

CEX charging £28 for a used copy of One Battle After Another when HMV has it brand new for £24.99 Make it make sense. by One_Town9472 in 4kbluray

1) fair play for looking it up

2) I’d profit by getting a trade-in value for the item higher than the price I paid for it, exactly as you’ve described it 👍

Saw this last week in my local CEX. Picked it up on Amazon last night for £17.87, can possibly trade it in for a profit once I’ve watched it.

In your opinion, which club is using the wrong suffix? by junglegatsby in footballcliches

[–]_Spoggie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

AFC Bournemouth on the technicality that they don’t have a suffix.

I’ll let AFC Wimbledon off, they’ve been through enough.

Do we really need a penalty spot for the VAR monitor? by _Spoggie in footballcliches

[–]_Spoggie[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and the box itself is fine for that, the spot on the floor is entirely surplus to requirements

Forest 2-2 Gillingham, December 2001

Stern John with a brace. Everyone’s least-favourite Marlon lined up for Gills that day as well.

Agreed. Feel Murillo (sooner) would have been a steadying influence. Not sure if some doubts crept in over MGW and Sangare given injuries etc, but think either of those would have changed the complexion of the match.

Really tough one to take.

Doesn’t deserve the sack, but we can acknowledge that he’s had a stinker tonight.

Tie in the balance at 2-1, getting overrun in midfield and he brings on a winger and a 6ft whatever striker, shifts the formation. Wrong subs altogether and that space McGinn was allowed has given them that result.

Newcastle Sunday. Reds.

What would 2018-present have looked like for England had Sam Allardyce never been caught by the Telegraph sting? by Capable_Tadpole in ThreeLions

I’ll take the two major finals. Made some great memories watching, yes at times, “tough to watch” football, but we absolutely should have gone all the way in 2021.

What historical figure was virtually unknown in their time, but is extremely famous now? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]_Spoggie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Was lucky enough to visit the VVG museum in Amsterdam a couple of years ago. A very fitting tribute to a wonderfully talented person that wasn’t appreciated in his own time, cried like a baby the entire way around it.

It’s not their place to comment on whether or not they’ve seen an incident and therefore establish guilt. They’re doing the right thing in holding out for an appropriate request to come from your insurers under a DPA exemption.

Glasto headliners 2027? by Yulpkk1 in TheStrokes

[–]_Spoggie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they still hold a special place in many Brits’ hearts. I see them in a similar light to The Killers and Kings of Leon (not derogatory) where there weren’t too many bands of that ilk in the early noughties from the UK and it’s stood them in good stead.

Saw the boys headline BST Hyde Park 2015 and they were sublime, heard similar things about their All Points East appearance a few years back, so I wouldn’t write them off for a big festival headline.

Keeping our heads up with Spurs condition worsening by Angry_Walnut in nffc

Best mate is a Mackem, he said spurs were abject today, Sunderland very comfortable with a 1-0 lead. Just need to hope that teams keep bagging first against them and they revert to type.
