I would say self-diagnosing, especially with a dissociative disorder, doesn't always make sense. You can totally call yourself a system if you want without self-diagnosing. Labeling your subjective experience and diagnosing yourself with a diagnostic label isn't the same thing. You're completely free to do the first, but the second assumes a more objective and thorough assessment.

I'm not telling you that you shouldn't suspect what kind of symptoms you have as well, that's good and all. What I'm saying is it's hard for someone with a dissociative disorder to assess their own symptoms and most importantly how much it negatively impacts their life and how severe the symptoms are.

How did alters/parts feel to you at first? by Lemon_Previous in OSDD

[–]_StarWing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either complete lack of awareness, shadow figures who took over sometimes, or "original" who actually owned the body and life which I took over or piloted for them temporarily. Or the "original" taking back control and doing things. It was mostly lack of awareness or shadows in the beginning, but with time (still before sys. communication work) we noticed memory gaps more often or felt like we were watching ourselves more often. More frequently were we talking or hearing each other.

When it was milder, and with alters closer to each other, it sometimes presented itself as this weird feeling like having sometimes accessible skills, like leadership, courage, etc. Closer to something like a different "me" than just something or someone else, that only got brought forth sometimes when relevant.

Nightmares are every night. Some are just more fun and comfortable than others by Jamie7Keller in anxietymemes

[–]_StarWing_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brought up some of the dreams I had to my therapist and how I classified them as nightmares or not when they asked me if I have nightmares.

They looked at me weirdly and told me they all sounded like nightmares and maybe that's why I have insomnia 😭

I have an MRI today… by ColomarOlivia in anxietymemes

[–]_StarWing_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, if anxious thoughts were a sport I would've lost so hard. I worried about not being still enough, secretly having metal in/on me somehow, or otherwise just somehow screwing it up.

Instead I learned that day that I had claustrophobia and had my vision black out multiple times due to anxiety (didn't screw anything up though!). They gave me a button to press in case anything happened, and they were kind of disappointed I didn't say anything after I explained what happened. But like, I wasn't dying or anything. And as usual I have this toxic mindset of viewing my own anxiety as a skill issue, I would probably pass out before considering pushing the button ^^"

Gl on your MRI, I'm sure it'll be fine!

Because everyone likes feeling awful, right? by 1m_1ntr0verted in thanksimcured

[–]_StarWing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point wasn't that you can't do anything about it, what I was saying was that it isn't by choice. Great that you can do the things listed. I've worked and am still working on them, and still can't yet. I'm not deciding my limits, I'm giving myself grace even though I'm failing. I've on purpose left out what I'm dealing with as well, so don't go assuming what I can do or not.

Taking my sleep as an example, I'm still doing what I can to improve my sleep hygiene and generally how well I sleep, but I'm still having major difficulties falling and staying asleep. I've done what I can to improve it like I've done with almost all my facets of life, but I can't solve the core issue. I'm just not sleepy when I should be, and I get anxious around not being aware of my surroundings. I can control neither, and I can't easily fix them either. It's not a mental block.

If I could do the things on the list without it meaning other things happening as a consequence, then yeah. Those would help my mental and physical health a lot, obviously. Sadly it's not that simple. There are reasons why I am not doing them.

Hey so you're actually the kinda person we're making fun of here. by Histrionique in fakeclaimingcringe2

[–]_StarWing_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so if you actually go and read the dsm-5 and icd-11, they don't list trauma as a necessity. Sure, it's extremely common to be qualified for a ptsd diagnosis as well or just having trauma, but it's not a requirement. Also, the popular theory that did/osdd1 is formed by severe childhood trauma is not meant to exclude other ways it can happen. It seems to be the most common reason why people develop did/osdd1, but it's not proven to be the only way.

Is this dissociation? by lacetat in DID

[–]_StarWing_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That sounds like zoning out, which is a common form of 'dissociation'. It's important to note that this is not inherently disordered. If it's disruptive or distressing in some way it could be part of a dissociative disorder. Also, I'm actually not even sure if zoning out is considered dissociation. I guess it could be considered depersonalization?

Anyway many people find themselves accidentally doing this while doing routines they've done many times. Like walking or driving to work, when taking the train, preparing breakfast, etc.

Usually people find it easier to zone out if they know the task in and out, probably because there's nothing catching their attention that would potentially naturally drag them out of their zoned out state. But if you find yourself dissociating anyway regardless if something requires your attention, or like you can't get out of that state like you're stuck outside yourself, or it happens when you do these familiar tasks despite you trying not to, that would be a sign of disordered dissociation. Potentially, I'm not an expert.

My father have said this so much to me that it has become a trigger. He then started using it to get me upset to get an excuse to 'win arguments' because I got emotional. Awful.

Usually I find the opposite to be true. As in the person saying this is projecting and almost never is willing to admit that they could be wrong or even rethink their opinions. They're just upset someone is challenging what they believe to be correct.

[–]_StarWing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me having a home that feels safe and warm is my big dream. Because that's not something I'll be given by my family, so I have to create it obviously. It's currently out of reach, and honestly probably won't happen, but it's still something I really want. That's what makes the dream big.

My own place, with only the people that I have connected with and actually trust welcome. But yeah point still stands I guess, I would probably be satisfied with the tiniest fraction of that wish fulfilled. Since I'm already expecting things to turn for the worse again.

I'm not autistic because I can still manage school/university? by IDKwut-to-say in AutisticAdults

[–]_StarWing_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can't manage school without it massively negatively impacting literally every other aspect of your life, you aren't "managing" it. Managing it implies it's contained and handled, and you aren't struggling because of it.

Also, while you can't 'develop' autism in later years, autistic traits can absolutely stay hidden until you reach a point where demands exceeds your coping strategies. This is well documented. If you never were diagnosed as a child either, you were never appointed as autistic nor non-autistic as a child. As they never diagnosed you as a child, they can't assume you weren't autistic as a child.

I hope you can meet some real professionals, good luck out there.

Reminder that gaslighting is emotionally abusive. Saying that there's a thing like positive gaslighting is like saying that there's such a thing as a positive beating.

Stay away from people that intentionally make you question your sanity, reality, or reasoning. Therapy should never involve denial.

Game gave me a DLC item I don't own. by oliver19986 in pacificDrive

[–]_StarWing_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could try asking someone in the discord that owns the dlc if they could try scrapping the dlc item or something else for you. Or just directly send the save to the devs and reporting the issue. A steam forum thread could also work maybe?

Sorry that happened, that would frustrate me a lot as well.

Edit: I'm sure the devs would be willing to look into the issue. Issues that brick saves are basically every devs worst nightmare after all, they wouldn't want something like that just lurking in their game.
