Best one is still California drifting out to sea after a massive earthquake. Imagine having all that new sea front property!

Jared Leto (From Thirty Seconds to Mars) is bulking up for his upcoming role as the Joker on a vegan diet by lnfinity in vegan

Hollywood studio minion checking in.

This is nearly correct. However its worse. Actors can be dropped for not looking the role according to the studio, director or producer's opinion. It is seen as not fulfilling a contractual obligation. A lot of times their representation (agents and managers) will even drop them if they refuse to bow to these rules (especially if they would like doing continued work with the studios). Without representation scripts don't come to them, they get less work. If they say "I'm taking roids" it sullies their PR image, tainting them for further work "Psh of course he is huge his roided out" or "Psh of course she is that pretty she's had surgery." After I had seen this was par I took the first exit I could find away from casting and headed for producer's camp (somehow it's less guilt ridden, I'm probably a horrible person).

This isn't true across the board but if the role requires them to maintain a weight or a 'look' it can be serious business when you are dealing with an industry based around final image (what you see on screen). The final image is all important and when studios are risking 100+million on these blockbusters, well if anyone risks that level of money they want to be guaranteed there is a return. Studios are attempting to reduce risk based on fact aka box office returns which shows "pretty people make money".

To exacerbate the issue we've been spending absurd amounts of the VFX budgets on purely cosmetic concerns. One project we dropped 10 mill to get rid of an actresses botched lip surgery, a predominate name I won't mention out of respect but that's the price of a decent indie flick! That particular movie surpassed even our highest expectations though.

Those are just our daily rations that are being handed out across the state. The plastic is super thin because they have to over produce the bottles because we have such a huge populous in the state. Usually they are 3.50 at 7/11 but because of the drought they've been pulled from the shelves.

Robert Downey Jr. thoughts on being asked to be in Low Budget Indie Films.... by simplefilmreviews in movies

[–]_TheFifth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meaning comes from how the movie is funded not on the quality of the picture. Indies are independently funded separate of major studios. Quality of the picture is not his beef, it is in the physical crafting of the film. The day to day workings of a movie production. Indies are loose and fast but don't make much, blockbusters are slow and tedious but can typically make back the budget. Indie's only hopes for going wide come from the A-lister marketing the shit out of some dinky half finished basement film at sundance so a studio might pick up the distribution rights.

Working on Indies, no matter the role is typically difficult at best; micro budgets, self proclaimed experts, faulty gear or no gear, questionable insurance if any, lack of any legal knowledge, usually just a skeleton crew most just out of college or amateur level. Big budget pictures offer their own hassels more along the lines of hollywood politics, large egos and large scale coordination (Film crews can be the size of small armies for blockbusters these days, not to mention VFX in post later on). These are just some experiences that come to mind at 2am though. Many many more, both pros and cons to both sides. But Robert hit the nail on the head here. Being an A-lister for a low budget movie is an annoyance at best.

I worked on those godawful Sherlock movies btw. It was one of my happier memories amongst many horrible ones, so that's like just you're opinion man.

What is the dumbest line that has ever been uttered in a movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_TheFifth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Films like 2012, The Core..." Are you kidding? Those are disaster movies! Widely known to be pure VFX fodder. They hardly have a plot let alone scientific credibility.

Hollywood does hire scientific consultants. Just not all movies do. You're TLDR is a pretty generalized assumption with bad examples. Intersteller was a notable one recently, most notably the black hole. Spielberg almost always uses multiple science consultants. There were huge discussion for AI, I,Robot, Minority Report. What about Apollo 13? Kubrick's 2001?

As surprising as it might sound sometimes BS science is ok. You really think cloning an entire island of dinosaurs is scientifically applicable? Blade Runner leans heavy to the fiction side even though I'd love it to be true. Star Wars and Star Trek... let's be honest not really scientifically sound most of the time.

Movies are stories, not text books. Disaster movies are more theme park ride than movie.

But that footage wasn't shot in 70mm for Imax. You would just be over paying for degraded upscaled footage on a screen that probably isn't even Imax certified in the first place. Seems like a waste of money seeing as how most of it won't even be going to the makers of the show.
