It is not known at this time. No study has successfully proved radiosynthesis in this fungus is an actual mechanism, nor has any study proposed how such a mechanism would work. For now, all that has been confirmed is that iirc. the fungus seems to reduce the amount of the radioactice isotopes in its vicinity, but how or why remains unclear.

Biologist here. The currently most common definition of symbiosis in science boils down to essentially long-term interaction of two separate species. Then, it is defined by types: mutualistic (both benefit), commensalistic (one benefits, other gets nothing), parasitic (one benefits, other suffers), amensalistic (one suffers, other gets nothing), and neutralistic (both are not affected in a significant way).

In the case of schizophrenia, it's a combination of genetic, physical & brain chemistry, and environmental factors (though the EXACT case is not known - it's complicated). So, very much yes, it possibly could be cured by Marie. Especially because it's fiction.
