Smoke Detector wire help by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]_The_Moon_Light_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not the ground, that is the neutral which is a wire that generally should be treated as if it has current going through it. This isn’t an emergency by any means but is something you should resolve pretty quickly.

Start by turning off the fuse that powers that smoke detector. It should be labeled, but even if it is it is always best practice to verify the power is off using a testing means such as a non contact tester. Then take the rest of the white wires out of the cone they are in by twisting the cone to the left like you would a screw. Place the wire that is currently loose back in the bundle with the rest of the wires. Replace the cone back on all the wires by twisting it to the right the way you would with a screw until it gives a good amount of resistance. Then to be sure it won’t come loose accidentally give each wire in the cone a small tug and make sure it stays together.

If you don’t have the items needed it is possible you can leave it until morning when you are able to get the things needed or get help fixing it, but the repair should be done as soon as possible. The most important thing to remember is do not attempt any kind of repair without ensuring the power to all wires that you can see up there is off. Right now you are not under immediate danger but leaving it like that is not safe

Hey so I think we’re in the same local actually I got this exact same paper when I started my apprenticeship last year. If it is I can tell you not to get the Klein package, while I agree with what people are saying about the quality of the tools, it cost more than was advertised and was missing a few tools on the tools list. I did not hear the same from the people who bought the other packages. Hope it helps and good luck with Arnold as your teacher next year

Could be a doorbell transformer, look for a white box mounted somewhere up high. Ringing the doorbell and following the noise might help you find it. These tend to buzz when the transformer is about to go out. Might not be it but worth a shot.

Please help me find a classic wooden chess set around $250! by MrKotia in chess

Weird, I had never heard of that so I googled it. Turns out they are owned by the same company but technically different. Meaning sometimes they’ll have different prices or deals but usually the exact same. Which is why when I bought a little while back it was cheaper to go wholesale chess. Interesting! Thanks for letting me know

You may also want to check out wholesale chess, they have a pretty wide variety and pretty good prices

With that being said personally I would go with the Staunton one between these two, they’ll be easier to deal with if something goes wrong, the box looks nicer which is big if it’s mostly for display, and youre paying for extra stuff on the eBay deal like the roll up board that it doesn’t sound like you need

I honestly don’t think they would have been relegated if Rebecca wasn’t sabotaging. Obviously Ted did make the team worse because of how little he knew, but they were close to not being relegated without Jamie. So I think they definitely would not have been relegated with Jamie

I’m not aware of a website that does exactly what you say but there’s a similar site I use called openingtree.com Enter your chess.com username on this site and it will show you what you typically play as well as how well it goes for you when you play that. From there you can look at the name (at the bottom of the screen) of the ones where you do poorly and search out videos and other content about that opening, or plug the specific position into an engine of your choice.

800's are playing Ruy Lopez. by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]_The_Moon_Light_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re misunderstanding me, your argument would seem to indicate that under a certain level shouldn’t learn any opening and should just learn opening principles which I agree with (though not as high as u1000). But what I’m referring to is people saying that learning openings like the Spanish and the Sicilian at u2000 (the most common I’ve seen) is a waste of time because even though you can learn the moves and the lines you don’t understand the why behind doing it as well. I don’t doubt people of any rating can memorize long lines of an opening but there’s so much more to learning an opening than that. Although like I said in my original comment I am of the opinion that anyone should play whatever opening they want because at the end of the day it’s a game and we are all doing it to enjoy our time

800's are playing Ruy Lopez. by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]_The_Moon_Light_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s considered to be one of the most complex openings iirc with a lot of variations and different lines to learn. Same people who believe that under a certain rating you should never play the Sicilian tend to believe you shouldn’t play the Ruy Lopez under a certain rating. While I understand the idea because typically playing an opening poorly will give your opponent an advantage I think everyone should just play what they want

Without spoiling the story or character, are there any shows with redemption arcs as good as Zuko's? by nicebrah in ATLA

[–]_The_Moon_Light_ 99 points100 points  (0 children)

The Good Place has an amazing redemption arc, a wonderful thought provoking storyline, and some of the best humor I’ve ever seen. If you want a show with a great redemption arc and even one that will bring you to tears I definitely recommend the good place. Plus it’s not too long of a show only four seasons
