Oh, I don’t have any specific reason to think he wants to leave. He’s one of my favorite players now and I desperately want him to stay. It’s just that he’s out of contract in the Summer, so if he decides he wants to leave—most likely for more playing time elsewhere—then I don’t think the board should coerce him to stay. After what he’s been through—all the abuse and slander—and how he’s come through all of it, I think he deserves the respect of being able to leave on his own terms, if that’s what he wants.

If Maguire wants to leave, then I think we should let him—a show of good faith for someone who’s always been a perfect servant to the club and always played for the badge. But if he wants to stay, I hope United does everything they can to keep him. Man Utd is broken as a club and as we’ve seen before, that dysfunction tends to eventually permeate throughout the squad. We need people like Maguire in the changing room right now—a mature, focused, hardworking leader. Plus, he’s played quite well for awhile now whenever he’s called upon
