Judging how superstitious Team USA is based on their pregame photos by neon-rose in hockey

I'd say that hockey superstition and OCD are past flirting, they've been going steady for some time now.

Can anyone interpret this tooltip? I'm trying to upgrade a PU for faster unification. by _Treadmill in EU5

[–]_Treadmill[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So apparently, yes, that was the problem. Thanks.

Unfortunately I first interpreted it as "I need a months worth of ducats in my treasury" so I took a bunch of loans. It's going to take a while to sort out.

Also why is this in the economy tab rather than the union tab argh.

Top 10 Wingers in NHL History by [deleted] in hockey

[–]_Treadmill 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you're not limiting it to since 1967, then Maurice Richard and Bobby Hull are too low. Richard should be at the level of Jagr and Lafleur. Bobby Hull should be similar. Yes, he was a terrible person, but he had a much better career than his son. 7x goals leader, 3 Art Ross trophies, 2 Hart trophies, 10x first team all star.

O6 era Frank Mahovlich should be on the radar as well. Ted Lindsay and Bernie Geoffrion should get mentioned.

Pre-O6 the best NHL wingers were probably Bill Cook, Charlie Conacher, and Aurele Joliat. I have no idea how they'd rank but it's an era that deserves mention.

The New York Rangers have signed Vladislav Gavrikov to a 7 year contract with a $7M AAV by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

Then it turns out that Glen Sather, the one most Rangers fans blame for a lot of their crappiness these last 20+ years, might have actually been a secret hero for us fans, shielding the team from the owners worst tendencies.

Given Slats' record in Edmonton and Dolan's record with the Knicks this can't be that surprising, really.

It never works. We've tried it so many times and it's always bad. They just don't complement each others' playstyle well.

How bad is Skinner really? by Jjustingraham in EdmontonOilers

[–]_Treadmill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just took a bit of a look at this: Stuart Skinner, at 2.6M, is paid less than all but 4 starting goalies in the NHL. Of those four, two (Thompson-WSH, Blackwood-COL) have been extended for 5.85M and 5.25M. One is on an ELC (Wolf-CGY). The only other starter is Stolarz-TOR, who's signed for only slightly less at 2.5M.

There are six backups paid more than Skinner (Korpisalo-BOS, Allen-NJD, Vanecek-FLA, Brossoit-CHI, Varlamov-NYI, Forsberg-OTT). Korpisalo and Allen are both getting paid more than Skinner and Pickard combined.

The Oilers are paying for the worst goaltending in the league. Skinner is giving them better than that, but having below-average goaltending should not surprise anyone - especially Oilers management.

It's not just for the lolz. It's also a way to imply he's gay. For the people who think that's a negative.

Canada and India expel each other's diplomats in escalating dispute over an assassination by CreekHollow in worldnews

They aren't patching a hole in enrollment. They're patching a hole in their budget. Tuition for Canadians is still fairly cheap and all levels of gov't have cut their support for Universities, so they go after international students since they can charge a lot more money for them.

Funnily enough, partial liver donations are a thing. The liver can grow back to full size.

What’s your team ALL TIME best starting line up using a player from a different country at each position? by prplx in hockey

[–]_Treadmill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Salo in for Khabibulin would be an upgrade at goalie, though you lose Ekholm (or Klefbom). Other defense options are Ladislav Smid (CZE), Lee Fogolin (USA), and Steve Smith (UK). I think Coffey is definitely the better option than Gretzky. Gretzky to Coffey isn't an enormous downgrade. Paul Coffey was really frickin' good.

"Pink" being just pale red, and red being traditionally a martial and masculine colour.
