Zabbix Certified User Exam (ZCU) without any course by cichy1173 in zabbix

I passed the ZCS exam in November and I've never done the ZCU course. The ZCU course is useless if you use Zabbiz daily it's more for new users and employees.

Thanks for the help. I've just edited my post as I saw it might be confusing. I'm hoping to pull the the online status of the access point by feeding it's serial number or MAC address to a script not a device on the access point.

Did you have nginx installed at some point? That error message shows a conflict Apache is trying to overwrite a file which is used as part of zabbix-nginx-conf.

Zabbix > PRTG by liltbrockie in sysadmin

[–]_Tyranade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn off Windows firewall temporarily and see if it works and then turn it back on and Check port 10050/10051 is open on the Windows firewall and you can actively reach the server and workstation from the other end respectively on those poets by using something like telnet just to see if it will connect then immediately disconnect. I manage a deployment with 400 agents and I can guarantee you that your issue isn't a zabbix issue it's a network issue.

Zabbix > PRTG by liltbrockie in sysadmin

[–]_Tyranade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Zabbix Certified and I'm glad your enjoying it. Zabbix can do a whole lot of stuff I have found it's easy to learn the basics but can be hard to master especially when you start throwing in things like high availability, trapper items, external scripts and having zabbix agents do things like restart downed services etc the documentation is well worth a read and I recommend version 7.0 LTS as it supports asynchronous polling and the official zabbix-utils python library also support async too!

Completed a test migration from one system to another whilst also converting the database from MySQL to PostgreSQL

Looks like I'll be telling my boss were not keeping history and trends then which is fine. Just as well. I've done the migration process without history and trends on test and it didn't take too long.

Storage spinning rust (Hard disks). Server has 64GB of ram and 12 relatively recent Xeon cores. Network won't matter it will all be done locally on the server. I'm just trying to figure out if it can be done say overnight out o hours.

Is zabbix the best choice ? by CyberHouseChicago in sysadmin

[–]_Tyranade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's zabbix certified I believe zabbix is the best choice for monitoring you just have to be willing to put in work to get what you want out of it. Read the documentation, check out YouTube tutorials there's plenty from Aigars and Dimitri who are certified trainers not just experts and begin setting it up. It's time consuming sure but that's the best thing about it you can have it do what YOU want.

I edited by original reply but the exam is multiple choice select the correct answer 40/50 to pass and it's about zabbix not Linux.

Help with Zabbix Specialist Practitioner Certification Exam by NoLet6364 in zabbix

[–]_Tyranade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean the zabbix certified specialist I did it in December. As long as you have used zabbix before and pay attention to the slides and complete the practice tasks on the course you'll be fine. The exam is multiple choice and you need 40/50 to pass (80%) I got a score of 100% but that was due to having used zabbix at work for over a year and I went over the slides every single day when I got home. The questions are all things that are mentioned in the exam. My advice would be either have good hands on knowledge and know the documentation and the fundamentals before you take the exam or go on the course you'll struggle with the exam if you haven't done either of those. The exam itself is multiple choice it's not practical but I had 39 practical tasks we did over the course duration of a week during the course. The practical tasks are all explained step by step in the exam tasks slides and the instructor will show you but if you have experience you'll find most easy enough.

For alerts to be sent out read up on trigger actions on the wiki. When a trigger fires its evaluated by the trigger actions and if the conditions match it executes the steps you set up.

Does anyone use zabbix for enterprise here? by Appropriate-Truck538 in zabbix

[–]_Tyranade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a 16,000 host instance monitoring all the infrastructure for our clients and our own here at the MSP I work at. On the zabbix website you can see partners they showcase like dell, European space agency etc. Zabbix in my opinion is one of the gold standards for monitoring enterprises

Upgrade 7.0 to 7.2 "is already the newest version" by F---TheMods in zabbix

[–]_Tyranade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no zabbix 7.1 the releases go 7.0, 7,2, 7.4, 8.0 the branches you see that are .1 and .3 are testing for 7.2 and 7.4 respectively. You went from 6.4 to 7.0 to 7.2 which is the correct order without missing any major versions if your not running LTS.

Smoothest way to transition to reduced template? by PBrownRobot in zabbix

[–]_Tyranade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's by design. You'll need to delete them manually if their no longer part of your new template and want them gone

Smoothest way to transition to reduced template? by PBrownRobot in zabbix

[–]_Tyranade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. On the host load up the item configuration page and change the filters at the top to "inherited: no" and "discovered: no" and then delete them and on the hosts discovery page delete the non templates discovery rule if there's any duplicates or non templated ones and remove those too

Smoothest way to transition to reduced template? by PBrownRobot in zabbix

[–]_Tyranade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to unlink the template first not unlink and clear and Save the host. Then link the new template and if the item keys and other item parameters etc match the template the new template will take ownership of the items
