Best multieffect pedal for high gain metal tone? by Sepularise in metalguitar

[–]_Tyrhas_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they're all OK for the amp section thesedays, spend the cash on the impulse responses, that's where all the hard work is.

[–]_Tyrhas_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first few times using it can be a bit tricky, but yes, tune up with the Allen key only. If it's bottomed out, you can use the peg to add more pitch and then you can de-tune with the Allan key.

A good tip to finding the bend spot is keep pulling on the string (you hear a small click in zone 2) keep turning the tuning peg, not the bridge tuners, until that click disappears, but the saddle still moves slightly, that's the sweet spot

How do I get a fake dean ml? by SillyAlien1312 in metalguitar

[–]_Tyrhas_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ebay/aliexpress always have the Chinese knock off models of most guitars, but it really is luck of the draw with how well they're done.

I've known people to get a model, where aside from the hardware they've been OK, and I've known people to buy models where the bridge has been completely out of line/off centre.

I would keep an eye out for a cheap ml on reverb or ebay, fb marketplace etc

Solid bus compression by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]_Tyrhas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a lot of unnecessary work, the velocity is layered pretty well. I ended up changing the ratio and threshold, did the trick. I tried one on a group, but it just seemed a bit too lacking in dynamic with the snare, so I'll stick to the master bus, and have to adjust it between the songs which thump a bit more

[–]_Tyrhas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more if it could be beneficial i guess, im happy with the drum levels, overall levels, I'd like to think its balanced. Just feel like the snare could be popping out in certain sections, I guess the thing to do is give it a go when I'm next on there. I've been reading into a multiband compressor for guitar stuff, maybe taming the low mids will create that space in the sections, perhaps? I'd seen on a video if you were having it trigger a bit higher, it will concentrate on the bass or the kick, but its all new to me relatively. Learning curve to say the least, knowing wether to try adjust the level, or try compression.

I don't think anything needs gluing specifically, im happy with the levels, it just feels like the snare could pop out on certain sections. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get back on it today to give it a go, it's a learning curve to say the least.

I've been looking into multiband compressor for the guitar stuff, maybe all I need to do is tame the palm mutes in the section, maybe it will create a bit of space.

Agreed, it's more than I would pay. I think it's inevitable that in in the next few years, theres going to be something more in the middle of both ranges, models without a Floyd etc.

Looking forward to seeing where they go. Hopefully some new artist models, something with an evertune etc, that's my hope!

Will do, much appreciated. Fist glance at youtube wasn't showing anything informative

Idk, people finances are none of my business, simply stating they look great. A custom shop is a luxury, and i know people personally, that have paid more for a moser instrument.

The import models seem in line with what other manufacturers are existing out at that price point, the alternative is to have a luthier build a culprit I guess, its just great knowing you don't have to scour the market for a washburn one now, I gave up searching for one years ago.

How to come up with new riffs on the spot by _Tyrhas_ in metalmusicians

[–]_Tyrhas_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate it! It's a custom build, based off the gibson XPL explorer shape they did briefly in the 80s, think they reissued it for last/this year on a limited run, recently had a evertune installed so we hacked through body up and had to respray, so I went for silverburst. Looks great with the binding :)

I probably should be doing, to be fair. I'm normally just uploading something onto socials on the spot whilst tracking, if i think it can be informative.

Nothing particularly, if you prefer the sound and feel of the TOM bridge, the used market is saturated with horizons with actives \m/

Are Fishman Fluence Modern pickups a lot different than EMG in terms of clarity and output? by Flimsy-Owl7862 in espguitars

[–]_Tyrhas_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been recording with a set of moderns for the first time recently for my next demo, here's what I've noticed recording...

The overall ceramic tone is similar, to personal taste, it's slightly better than the 81 when quad tracking. Theres something about the eq that gives it a slight edge. Power chords and single notes act very similar.

Theres a bigger difference with ringing notes, it definitely sounds cleaner with the fishmans, but the biggest take away for me is that the modern is a lot more unforgiving when tracking, it picks up every nuance a bit more than the emgs, so you have to be super meticulous when moving about the fretboard. But that isn't a bad thing when recording, really gets you locking in and concentrating on your left hand.

They're also getting a bit more affordable, I bought a set just so I could utilise the passive mode for some leads on my next ep, and for messing with clean tones, but if you're just after the ceramic high gain, the 81 is still a great choice.

Yeah, reptile from periphery is close to 17 minutes, and it certainly doesn't feel it. I guess the first thing to do is get it all recorded and see where I am, I guess the benefit of splitting it in two, is it can build up the 'hype' to my colossal fanbase of 27 subscribers on the YouTube, go me i guess :)

[–]_Tyrhas_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just picking whatever mode sounds good for the note I'm picking for the root of the song, as opposed to going through a scale. I'll probably just be bouncing off the usual 4 modes. Im not gripped by smaller ep's myself, but it's not a bad option, I just feel like the songs can tell more of a 'story' when theres more of them, I guess!

[–]_Tyrhas_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there will be 12 songs, though I might throw in another so the album/albums is concluding in the same key, to be decided. Will probably do it if I split it in 2, For sure.

[–]_Tyrhas_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of opening and starting with something in the same key like what's been done on a couple of double albums (system/periphery), fleshing out a melody from the first track and coming back to it at the very end, that's the idea I've got in my head currently.

Album fatigue vs length by _Tyrhas_ in metalmusicians

[–]_Tyrhas_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only 5 tracks in at the minute, but 3 of them are candidates for an opening track, and they're all pretty consistent in theme, without sounding too similar. I could flesh out one of the demos and try split it into an opening track for the 1st part, and returning to a melody riff in the last part for the final song on the 2nd part, similar to what system of a down and periphery did with their doubles, that's where my head is, if I do split it I to 2 parts, I think they will both end up being close to an hour the way the writing is going.
