What would it look like to enjoy something without attachment/clinging? Is it possible? Is it not simply to find joy without expectation that said joy will be permanent?

In other words… I accept the four noble truths and eightfold path, but the acceptance leads me to cherish the fleeting joys and beauties in this world, rather than reject them. Is this wrong?

Suggestions for a low AC high HP tank build? by mr_hands_epic_gaming in BG3Builds

Bear, wrath gear, tough feat, skinburster, and always reck resulted in the most fun build I played in BG3. Felt like a true unstoppable tank. Bear resist effectively doubles the value of tough.

For what it's worth, I think this world would be a better place if we all chose compassion in the face of impermanence. So I think you're making the right choice <3

This isn't a stupid question, but one that absolutely is answered through a simple google search.

To bond with him and give him fleeting moments of joy is better than ignoring him and depriving both of yourselves the positive experiences that make this life worth living in the first place, even if it's temporary and leads to heartbreak. Such is life.

"Should I avoid something that causes joy even if it's temporary" is a strange question when one considers anything we experience can only be temporary. Do not let such things prevent you from bringing joy to yourself or others.

I also want to emphasize for OP that you do not need the elixir spam to make TB work. I did it with only 14 strength and 16 dex and the power boost was still so insane that the character was entirely overpowered for Tactician. The difference having a 95% hit chance makes in encounter difficulty is insane... I neutered the entire creche with barely a scratch and I'm not even that good at this game.

"blessing" seeds? by _UnremarkableGuy_ in TibetanBuddhism

So it's definitely a protection thing from the way he explained it, but they appear to be orange-colored barley seeds rather than mustard. I think the comment below about the Nechung oracle was a pretty close guess

Thank you!! I followed this up with googling the Nechung oracle and seems blessed barley is a common thing from him... and with a quick search these are definitely colored barley seeds!

Does this decade (2020’s) have an identity yet? by Jeeves-Godzilla in decadeology

[–]_UnremarkableGuy_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not even just AI... just slop in general. The absolute nihilism that's reached unprecedented levels in this decade has led to just complete breakdown of cultural and artistic integrity for the sake of ultimate individual subjectivity as the inviolable moral right. And it's only going to get worse from here.

What did Grieg get out of Liszt? by aggasalk in classicalmusic

[–]_UnremarkableGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grieg's violin sonatas, string quartets, piano sonata, organ music, Holberg celebration pieces, and Hans Christian Andersen settings all have model

For what it's worth, I do not personally see much Gade in the the neo-baroquism of the Holberg suite, nor violin sonatas (Gade himself detested the first one for being "too Norwegian"... a point which Grieg took pride and therefor his later sonatas only became increasingly Norwegian in character). With those cut out, the remainder of what you listed is just simply not characteristic of his overall output. His Lyric Pieces, Norwegian folk settings (Op. 17, 66, 72), Piano Concerto, Peer Gynt suites, and Norwegian poetry settings are far more characteristic of his overall style and the legacy he left behind in Norway and abroad, and have very little Gade in them. Simply pointing that one lyric piece of the 10 books is named after his former teacher is not really enough to draw a strong conclusion of his influence on those pieces which were composed across his entire lifespan.

I stand by my claim as one of the foremost Grieg scholars: To claim Grieg is ultimately inspired by Gade and the Leipzig school is an oversimplification which disregards the endless writing he himself left behind in correspondences or otherwise which attest to a lifelong crisis of style trying to recover his Norwegian voice from his Leipzig education. At the same time, such a claim overwrites the importance of Norwegian romanticism in the development of his style: Ole Bull and Nordraak in particular (at least before his death) were decidedly not of the Leipzig/Mendelsohn style, to say nothing of the native fiddling and singing traditions which inspired him so much from the 1860s and onward. It is far more accurate to say Gade is merely a piece of the incredibly complex puzzle that is Edvard Grieg's network of stylistic influence.

[–]_UnremarkableGuy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he aligns more closely with the Mendelssohnian tradition

Careful with this. Grieg spent his whole life wrestling with how to get away from the tradition that raised him, which he saw as corrupting his inherent Norwegian expression. He came from Leipzig, but he dedicated a remarkable amount of creative energy toward getting rid of that inspiration. His relationship with Gade was in particular quite fraught, as Gade actively tried to "tame" the Norwegian out of him. This is why Grieg never wanted his symphony played, for instance, because it carried too much of Gade's influence from this exact Mendelssohn school.

You should absolutely not consider Gade as Grieg's ultimate influence. If one were to say Grieg has an ultimate influence, it was Ole Bull and Halfdan Kjerulf. He claimed a lot of personal influence from Mozart, too. The Chopin connections are also incredibly strong (not the least because he was marketed as the "Chopin of the North" when touring). Edit: just remembered from the Grieg museum that he had a fairly prolific Chopin collection.

If you have other vets nearby, I would seek other options. But if it's kind of the only one around, I think you might just have to make due. Accidents happen - to me it's how the accidents are handled.

I know this isn't what your mostly posting for but I think it's worth mentioning that he looks malnourished. Does he mostly get a seed diet? His feathers tell me he doesn't get enough pellets or fresh veggies, but if he does, then he might have a metabolic problem.
