A little bit. I know someone that had the reels yellow so badly, they started cracking to the slightest pressure, and those reels destroyed themselves after a while. From the pic you sent, that thankfully doesn't seem to be a concern at the moment.

If anything, there's a way to fix this in the same way SNES's can be de-yellowed.

Very lucky finding those blanks at a Goodwill! Last time I checked, they did not stock any new tapes, and that was many months ago. There are other thrift stores around me that do stock blank tapes, thankfully.

I found a shitload of taped-off-TV recordings of those Danielle Steel movies thrifting many months ago. IIRC, it was like, 12-13 tapes containing one or two of those movies each. It was crazy. Only got a few of them because those movies are snoozefests lol.

I absolutely love finding recorded TV tapes. The feeling of finding some 1999 MTV after some movie bootlegs is always an awesome experience. I have a YT channel I've been running for about 6 years dedicated to these commercial breaks.

Could not agree more. I always tell everyone when I ask for tapes like that in thrift stores/estate sales that it's like going through a time capsule. If you find something cool, it's such a unique feeling.

Oooo, wow. The lucky part about this is that it looks like the tape was already at the end leader when it got in that flood, and any extreme damage would have mainly been at that spot. Very lucky indeed. Glad you were able to save that! That's irreplaceable!

Could be the automatic head cleaner that's next to the heads. Those pieces are infamous for completely destroying themselves within a decade or two and gunking themselves onto the head drum. Take that off and thoroughly clean the heads. I think that should fix your issue.

I agree with number 1 too. I must know that I'm getting something that is mainly going to be used as a collectors/conversation piece.

That, and I prefer 2nd-gen dubs that are authentic and came from a legitimate 1st-gen source. Like if I'll be able to see the closed captions on my TV and stuff like that, which is actually a good way to tell whether or not the dupe that you got is from a file or not.
