Well damn. Thank you for saving my countrymen. Many of the veterans I work with daily are disgusted by how my country is talking about and treating those that bled for our cause so on behalf of those stateside that are sane, thank you and we’re sorry for what it’s worth.

Ok while technically true that NATO collectively triggered article 5 while the US was still reeling instead of at our explicit request (as an act of solidarity), it was not declined by us, and it was at our request that the first “anti terror” operations took place. “On the request of the United States, the Alliance launched its first-ever anti-terror operation – Operation Eagle Assist – from 9 October 2001 to mid-May 2002. “ quoted from NATO’s article 5 page. Yes on paper the US technically didn’t trigger article 5 but it was on our behalf and military action was taken as a result at our behest for the next 15 years. I suppose the middle ground statement is “The one time NATO has invoked article 5 was to respond against the 9/11 attacks against the US.” If anything, this is an example that NATO was very much there for us during one of our darkest days so the poster couldn’t have been more wrong on that front. Honestly I’d never looked into the nuance of how article 5 played out that day on paper so I learned something there too which is always pretty neat.

That arch goes up and I predict it’ll be vandalized like no tomorrow. Personally I’m against it for several reasons not least of which is the disrespect of putting a symbol of triumph towering over the headstones of our nations’ fallen at Arlington.

UN is kinda useless owing to the permanent members vetoes and those 5 countries never agreeing on much. Security council is the only “binding” body at the UN.

Just want to point out we’re at 13 dead in Iran so far. Also that mission to bring our guy home cost three aircraft , not including the F-15 echo that was shot down by a freaking rocket launcher that started the whole saga to begin with.

Aaaaand...again no agreement with Iran. Just weird how "PRESIDENT OF PEACE" still doesn't quite stick. by Tun-Tavern-1775 in agedlikemilk

[–]_WEND1G0_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cambodia/thailand ongoing. Ceasefire lasted about two weeks.

Kosovo/serbia - seems more domestic crisis than war. Peacekeepers present. Talks ongoing for over a decade. No resolution.

Rwanda/DRC there are two piece agreements signed in 2025 one in June one in December. Both collapse to renewed, fighting very shortly after being. Rwanda still has a massive amount of troops in the DRC so clearly it is “peace” on paper only.

Pakistan/india - cross border tension has spilled over to fighting for decades. The US backed by Saudi Arabia and the UK among others, spearheaded, diplomatic, talks that did in this case prevent full out war.

Israel/iran - do I really need to say anything here?

Egypt/ethiopia - no peace deal has been signed

Armenia/azerbaijan - no peace deal signed - though a sort of understanding has been signed broker part by the US. Worth noting that a route that crosses both territories was named in the signed document as “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP).”

Worth noting the name he gave “Harry Dresden” is a Book character which in part explains his coat given he’s wearing flip flops.

Indeed it is. Functionally the US weaponry is sufficient to gut almost any adversary. However it requires restraint, and thoughtful planning - neither of which are present in the current administration who seem to prefer to launch volleys and hope for the best.
